This is not specifically related to Mac computers but nonetheless I suspect may be of interest to many readers - and certainly usable in our machines.
Stable Diffusion is an open source artificial intelligence image generation project which has gotten a good deal of attention in the past year. It’s amazing technology but requires a bit of work to set up, like many open source projects.
DreamStudio is a recently released beta web app which avoids the need to install the software locally.
If you sign up (for free) on the beta site you can type in a description of any image you want and see many versions of the software’s impression of your subject. Really impressive technology.
It’s a lot of fun. I’m running it on an M1 Max 32GB and able to get a good (768x) image every 40-50 seconds. An Ultra renders the same Stable Diffusion result every 10-15 seconds. In 2021 I didn’t expect we might be evaluating consumer hardware for its ability to use quality ML training within a year.
