Syncing Podcasts to Apple Watch

I’ve been trying to cut down on taking my phone out with me on dog walks, but I still want to listen to music or podcasts while I’m out. I’m finding that Overcast doesn’t reliably syncs the episodes or playlists over, and that’s frustrating (especially since I don’t think there’s any documentation about how to do that).

Is there a solid workaround to this for Overcast, or am I better off switching over to Apple Podcasts or something else?

If your intent is to avoid distractions, Set your phone on DND and greyscale and use your phone.

I’ve had better consistency from Apple Podcasts than Overcast in syncing episodes to my watch (Series 10). Note that episodes only sync when the watch is on the charger. I would also recommend that you choose a specific playlist to sync rather than letting it sync everything.

I have also been interested in getting podcasts to sync with my watch. I will give this a try.

Agreed. Apple Podcasts is better at playing episodes from my Watch. that’s Annoying as I signed up to a paid Overcast subscription to get away from the Podcast app—and failed spectacularly!

I agree Apple’s is the best watch experience, especially with cellular. Looking forward to the Castro watch rewrite…

I have been happy with Pocket Casts for this. I have it set to sync my Up Next list (episodes I add into the queue). After I’ve gone for a lunchtime walk, I sometimes have to initiate a sync so I can resume listening to the podcast on my phone where I left off on my watch.

I download my Saved list to my Watch, but it seems to download the 10 most recently saved episodes by save date, regardless of whether I’ve listened to them yet. And with no way to hide played episodes.

For those who are satisfied with Podcasts app watch sync… what do you use as your “to listen to” queue? Saved? Downloads? Or do you download recent episodes from your shows?
