We have YouTube Premium for the whole “ad-free” thing. And I like that I can have playlists on local storage rather than having to constantly be online on the go.
What I’m looking for though is a way to segment some of my stuff. I have a few broad categories of channels I follow. But when I click “subscriptions,” my options for sorting are “most relevant,” “new activity,” and “A-Z.” While I like both channels about relaxation and “how to” tech channels, for example, I don’t like having to sift through the tech channels when I’m looking for a relaxation video.
Is there any app, service, etc. that would let me make multiple channel categories? So I could, say, have a list of the newest content from a dozen relaxation channels and pick the video I want?
YouTube does not let you create custom channel categories natively but you can approximate it by using Playlists or Library to “Watch Later” to group videos you want. Another option is to use third party apps like NewPipe on Android or browser extensions that let you filter subscriptions by channel or tag. Not perfect but it helps separate the stuff you care about.
Have you considered just using more than one account? Perhaps a slight pain, but if used mostly on the Mac, a site-specific browser with something like Unite can effectively separate them. (I’m not sure if Safari’s “save to dock” provides true separation. Unite apps do.)
I considered this, but Google is getting very aggressive with requiring phone verification for all new accounts. And apparently my phone number is set up on too many accounts for me to sign up for a new one.
When I started digging into it, apparently there is no way to remove your phone number from previous accounts either – even if you know what they were.
