Yeah, I know. There were already more than enough clipboard manager apps before AI coding was a thing. To be fair, I started making the app more than a year ago, when AI coding was barely a thing and Apple hadn’t announced that a clipboard manager was coming in macOS Tahoe.
But I really think that even among the long-standing clipboard managers MPU users love and use — like Paste, Pastebot, and Alfred — Text Catalyst is still very special. I put a lot of effort into it, as both a developer and a long-time user of clipboard managers.
I don’t want to list features, because you already know what a clipboard manager should have. Instead, I want to highlight the little details that make Text Catalyst a bit easier to use.
Paste List
Paste List is where you search and paste from your clipboard history.
Besides pressing a keyboard shortcut to show it, you can also double-tap a modifier key. I swapped the Caps Lock and Control keys on my Magic Keyboard, and I found that double-tapping Caps Lock with my left little finger is more comfortable than a keyboard shortcut.
Paste Stack
This is also called Paste Queue or Sequential Paste in other apps.
Some apps require extra keyboard shortcuts to add items to the stack. Text Catalyst lets you use ⌘C and ⌘V to copy and paste from the Paste Stack. It also has Auto Copy, which lets you copy text without pressing any keys. Just select text and — boop — a new entry is added.
Links
The app has a built-in list that shows links from your clipboard, and a “Preview links” setting that fetches more info about them. It also indexes link titles, so you can search by title.
Performance
The app lets you save up to 48,000 entries. It’s not unlimited, but you can browse all of them by scrolling the list from top to bottom seamlessly, without prev/next buttons. I’ve made sure scrolling and interaction stay fast even with a large amount of data.
