Well… that’s a way to deal… =)
Speaking only for myself: When I switched from Android to iOS (in 2015), I had been a devout Pocket Casts user on Android so I immediately purchased it for iOS. I used it for a week or two, but felt like wasn’t up to par with the Android version. I gave Overcast a look and found it to be a better fit for me. I checked in on Pocket Casts a couple times a year for a while to see how they were doing, but never saw enough to get me to go back.
Yes. Specially if we see the last update…
Do you listen to podcast on your computer too? The only downside of overcast for me is the web interface…
No, iPhone/iPad only.
FYI a week ago PC introduced a significant overhaul of the app, UI and guts, across all platforms. As a longtime user I’m still acclimating to it (the changeover was accompanied by no advance notice or instructions) but there are some nice advancements and I’m settling into it. The app’s blog posts about the changes:
At the moment I’ve taken a break from my never-ending search for the perfect email client and have gone back to the native app on both macOS and iOS. I use the default calendar app on iOS, for the most part, though when I tinker with Reminders, I’ll use Fantastical to show them in line with my calendar.
I keep going back and forth with Apple Notes. The poor web clipping is what turns me off making the complete switch.
My use case is mixed. I use the stock notes and calendar apps but use Spark for email because I use the extra features extensively. I also use Overcast because of its feature set. I use Devonthink for all research storage and PDF Expert for annotating PDFs.
I’m not even sure what app to use to respond to this.
I’ve gone back and forth a bit with Fantastical, but always come back to the stock calendar app (at least on macOS, I still use it occasionally on iOS devices).
I go back and forth between the stock calendar app and Busycal on the Mac. I do like some of the advanced features in Busycal.
I always find myself getting back to the stock mail app.
What makes you use Fantastical? I like the simple looks of the stock Calendar app. When I tried Fantastical, it looked too bulky for me - especially on the iPhone and iPad.
Why Devonthink over folders?
I also find it bulky but use it when I want to see Reminders inside my calendar on ios.
I am in the same boat. In the end, I always end up going back to the stock calendar app because it integrates much better with other apps (especially on iOS) and is less cluttered with features that I do not need.
Yes, to some degree I am suffering from this “syndrome”.
I have tried a lot of mail apps only to return to Apple Mail over and over again. This has happened so often that I have stopped checking out “new and fancy” mail apps.
Sometimes, third-party apps stick with me though. I have been using Overcast for years now. Still, I have been using Apple’s Podcast app in between, too. But so far, I keep returning to Overcast.
Overall, I think most of the stock apps are not only just fine but they are very good. Sometimes, third-party apps deliver to different use cases in different ways and that provides a big variety of solutions to choose from. I like having this choice.
Especially for new Apple users, I think it is a good idea to start with the stock apps and to really learn the “Apple way” first.
FantastiCal has a great “real language” input ability that makes adding thing to my calendar much easier sometimes.
And still no month view in Fantasticcal
