The backlink thing

Ulysses has released a new version that offers “incoming” links, aka. Backlinks. And a lot of other stuff. Great addition to an already stolid stacked app for sure. Personally, I dont use backlinks for the type of writing I do in Ulysses, and it has made me wonder, was the backlink stuff a bit hyped? Do anyone use this fully and have any effect of it?

I think one use of backlinks is to allow users to use Ulysses like obsidian or notion. It just connects separate sheets to each other.

It might be useful for someone who wants to see when a sheet is referenced somewhere else.

This would make a powerful note taking app.

I use Ulysses more as a way to prepare drafts to send to Microsoft Word or Pages for final layout and work with other collaborators. So I’m not quite sure how I’ll use backlinks but it’ll be interesting when I try it.

I do love backlinks in the Calendar app. I can drag and drop ab OmniFocus task to the calendar. This creates an event with the link back URL in the notes section. I can click on the URL to jump back to OmniFocus.

I use backlinks extensively (in Craft) in a set of observation notes where I mention a particular thing in the specific note, and the backlinks in the summary page for that thing list all the times, in all the notes, it has been mentioned. I do similarly for locations, and various categories. It built organically btut works very well.

If Apple Notes gets backlinks this year (big if) what would it still be missing?
