I have not tried it as I have no need to, but there is a compilation of various reports here (along with various issues encountered):

In summary:

It really seems more like migrating purchases (as the title of Apple’s support document says) rather than merging accounts. iCloud data, account balances, and TestFlight betas don’t transfer.

The button doesn’t appear for me I guess because somehow Apple Music is tied to the account I want to transfer purchases from? Not sure.

For me the nightmare became just a mildly bad dream when they introduced family sharing. My two accounts and my wife’s account are just family members. I won’t bother to make any effort to merge my two personal accounts.
