The Joy in handing down Apple gear

For my nephews birthday we gave him my old (ancient) MacBook Pro. Sure it’s 10 years old, has an intel CPU, 8GB RAM and paltry 128GB SSD but he doesn’t care.

I can’t actually verbalise the look on his face when opening the original shipping box (yes I actually kept it) and say the words “MacBook Pro” on white Apple box.

His head spun round so fast, and his jaw dropped!

“Are you serious?” he asked, with his face lit-up.

I set expectations, telling him it’s not new but he doesn’t care. It has GarageBand installed which is all he wants to use it for.

For anyone with an old Mac, iPad or Phone sitting on a shelf, I can’t recommend highly enough handing this down to a family member

If that computer fulfils their use case then they will almost certainly appreciate it, with a feeling of surprise and delight.

That’s a great story. I can tell it brought you great happiness.

This is my current dilemma. I want my 6yo to really get into reading, playing & homework, but on the other hand I want him to play video games and teach him computers.
