And confirming that Cultured Code are really not paying attention to their customer base:
I own a copy from years ago, so I install it once in a while to see that they’ve added, and find the answer is pretty much nothing. I kind of admire them for not just pandering to people. On the other hand, it’s why I don’t use it.
No easy way to finish repeating tasks early is the one that has kept me looking at Things alternatives. Is that still in the “No.” category?
I am one of the subscriber to Things Beta but the confidentiality clause specifically prohibits giving more details.
But as status board says there are two long requested features coming. And I do mean loooooong requested.
This beta seems to be going through multiple builds which is more than in the past. Maybe Cultured code is really struggling with smaller team.

Recently excellent 2Doapp released their new version (V3) which has been long overdue.
I used it before switching to Things and was frustrated with many issues not being solved. But V3 although late, seemed to have solved almost all of these issues, so really tempted to switch to 2Do
I used to love 2Do, such a great app, but it got no meaningful updates for ages. Nice to hear a new one landed.
I respect Cultured Code a lot as a staunch defender of small products that are well done and tested with a clear roadmap: this does this, this does not do that. But the productivity arena has become much crowded with many players, and add to that that anyone can vibecode a productivity app. They must be struggling selling new licenses and their level of polish requires a lot of work.
I support them and OmniFocus even though I don’t use them any more!
Just a few days ago I started to use (and “love”) 2Do. Yes, the developer Fahad released a new version some days ago.
I am still a Things user - but Things is more a clean notes-app (I love the UI) with reminders functionality for my projects and travels.
2Do (and in combination with BusyCal) is perfect for my workflow as I manage here my “general” tasks (private, work).
I still use Things on the Mac and iPhone and I really appreciate that they did not go the subscription route and yet still keep on supporting the software. That takes a lot of willpower!
This is to say I can cut them some slack for not needing to give new features. So long as it’s current features met my requirements, I see no reasons to change.
If they implement checking off repeating tasks early I might go back to it. I basically swap between Reminders and OmniFocus, but really like how stripped down and clean Things is.
I can’t use my Mac for work, so it’s actually very easy for me to bounce around between then – it’s just my personal life and projects in them.
I joined the recent round of beta tester for Things 3 and they are hard at work now. I have received multiple updates over the last few weeks and I think a lot of people will be happy to see that the devs are working on stuff

Nothing in this makes me want to come back to Things sadly.
I use Remind me faster with reminders & am now using OmniFocus 4 (powerful but also lacking some features & sync is awful!).
I’m really surprised that neither app has built in templates we can activate as some things are standard !
I have an Area in things called templates. Just duplicate the project or task and it’s good to go. Reminders needs a lot of digging into if somethings change. I could never get that to work for me cause, “Some things never change… And some things do.” - The Matrix Reloaded
Why is OmniFocus sync so slow compared to Things.
That’s been an ongoing issue for me. So much so that I’ve found OF untrustworthy as I could never count on my data on a device being up-to-date, so I moved on from OF.
Yes I agree it is unreliable.
@svsmailus What did you move on to? Things cloud/sync is very very good and instant.

But are they working on stuff we want them to work on?
I have bought Things every time they released it and every time I have given up on it.
I tried OF but sync is unreliable and the UI is cluttered/complex so going back to Things.
I recently switched to a Pixel and so am using Todoist which works well for my context.
