Time Machine details

Is there a way to see which files Time Machine is backing up?
Even with hardly any activity Time Machine backs up between 100 and 200 MB each time. Even though that’s not much compared to today’s standards, I think it’s a lot for a system that hasn’t been touched since the last TM backup.

Is there a logfile or a tool where I can see what files TM picks up?

Also to see what TM is excluding from your backups:

In Terminal type:
sudo mdfind “com_apple_backup_excludeItem = ‘com.apple.backupd’”

The command from the Apple Support article shows the TM log, but that doesn’t contain a list of the files that were included in the latest TM backup. It’s that what I would like to see.

Answering my own question, these are a couple of tools that do the trick:

Timedog
BackupLoupe

While BackupLoupe looks undeniably more fancy and probably has more options, I went with Timedog for now. This creates a list of files that I can investigate.
