Spotlight is my favourite way to launch apps into Split View on iPadOS. I like assigning it to AssistiveTouch so it can be used in apps without an external keyboard.
The caveat is that unlike using it with external keyboard, the search box doesn’t dismiss itself when dragging an app out until an extra tap somewhere else.
