Tips for journaling in Apple Notes

I’ve been using DayOne for over a year. My journaling has been fairly simple even though I would love to do more. But anytime I put pressure to write more, I fail so I keep it simple. One day…

About 3 months ago, I started using Apple Notes for my note-taking needs. I was surprised by how much better it had gotten over the years. And with Apple Intelligence, I’m curious how it can be improved. So I’m thinking of hedging on AI and switching my journaling to Apple Notes.

For those that use AN for journaling, I’m curious of any tips you can provide. For example, do you make the Title the day of the entry? If so, do you have an easy way to do that? (I don’t have Text Expander)

I also use a template in DayOne. I figure I could create a simple Apple Text Replacement as a workaround.

Many thanks for your tips.

On a Mac, Espanso is an excellent free alternative to Text Expander. It uses text files for configuration so it’s a little geeky, but the documentation is excellent, and it’s easy to set it up to insert current dates and times.

Also, fwiw I recommend using ISO 8601 dates (yyyy-mm-dd) for that to support proper machine sorting.

Thanks for the tips. Didn’t think about the date format.

Forever ✱ Notes has a setup for journalling using Apple Notes. I am still thinking about this approach, but something else to consider, anyway
