Today was a very expensive day

I’d been waiting on the MacBook Air since I really want the additional 1" of screen space.
I’d been waiting on an update to the Studio to get one for work (instead of the docked laptop approach).
I’d been waiting on an 13" iPad refresh because we use one at home on the piano as a sheet music machine and our 1st Gen iPad Pro 13" is struggling at this point.

This was a very expensive day.

Oh my, reading your message I found the Studio is out. An expensive day for me too indeed.

As someone once said to me, “if you’re going to do something, do it all the way”!

What chip and memory did you opt for in that Studio?

We had our first child acquiring their own laptop: 13" base blue Air from the education store.

I cheaped out for my own (middle school) kid and went with the M2 MacBook Air for her. Should be plenty for the next few years and at $699 with 16GB (Amazon) I couldn’t resist the deal.

That’s an older one, but you’re still nicer than me since it sounds like you paid for it!

Jason Snell has mentioned the M1 MacBook Air, available at Walmart, is still a good choice for a lot of people.

And “If you’ve got an M2 MacBook Air, you can stay put—unless you’re desperate to plug in a second display, that is. “

It’s here.

  1. I’m always amazed how fast an out of the box Mac is. Applications installed so quickly on this I thought something went wrong and it didn’t work. Now that I have a million things running it’s more normal (but still fast). Still, the experience is great when you just spent a bunch of money.

  2. I was concerned the switch from the screen of the MBP to the MBA was going to be too jarring for me and I’d have to retreat back to the MBP and get a 16". So far, no issues. This screen looks great.

  3. I can’t believe how light this computer is. It’s eerie to have something so large be this light. Noticeably lighter than the 14" MBP. Apparently that .2 lbs difference is more than I thought.
