Trash an open file?

I can’t find this question anywhere, so here it is:

Sometimes I have a file open, like a screenshot that I realize I no longer need, and I’d like to be able to send it straight to trash w/o closing it, navigating to it, then trashing the closed file. I know I can ‘Move To…’ while the file is open but Trash is never an option, presumably because it’s invisible?
This seems simple but in my searching I’ve not found the answer, or if it’s even possible.
Thanks.

If the file is truly open it cannot be deleted but you should be able to move it to the trash with Cmd-Delete.
