I’m looking for recommendations for a TV that has full CEC support and compatible with the AppleTV. This means the following:
I have to be able to control both the power on/off function and volume from the AppleTV remote. The current TV I have is the 40" Google Smart TV claims to be fully CEC compliant, but when I configured it, I couldn’t control the power on/off functionality. I only managed to get the volume controls to work with the AppleTV remote. Also, the TV only had two HDMI ports, which is a negative in my book.
Furthermore, I am looking to buy a larger TV. Any guidance the community can provide would be greatly appreciated.
Almost all tv’s made in the last few years have full CEC compatibility. HDMI/CEC took a while to mature and early TV’s and devices had problems.
For choosing a TV, it really depends on your decision criteria - price, quality, special features.
Quality starts with choosing OLED versus LCD displays and that has the largest contributor to price (OLED’s are still more expensive).
Other common choice is brightness. LCD’s are brighter than OLED’s, but in many common viewing situations, even daytime with windows, brightness is so much better now even with inexpensive TV’s.
Special features I would say fall mainly into support for very high refresh rates and latest HDMI specs to support connection of game consoles/gaming PC’s to achieve highest frame rates - definitely a niche criteria not significant for many consumers.
Encouraging final note - even the least expensive TV’s sold by big-box discount stores or online ecommerce sites are amazing quality compared to older TV’s, so you really can’t go wrong.
