Two questions for iPad users…

Hi! I’m two weeks into my iOS only experiment.

I have a Mac mini M1 but have turned it off (actually, it’s starting to have the odd problem, not serious, just annoying) and am using either my iPad Air 6 13" or my iPad mini 7 as my computer device.

By-and-large, I’m enjoying the experiment. However, I have two questions that I would like some help with.

Firstly, on my Mac I have a very good image editor called Acorn. I use this app almost exclusively for resizing images for wallpaper or for inline inclusion in documents I am preparing. It would be nice if the iPad app could produce drop shadows for images. I also use it for image file type conversion (.webp to .jpg for example). I am looking for something similar for the iPad. I don’t need high-end image editors, just something simple and easy to use. I have an app called CropSize which, as it’s name implies, resizes image files - it does this very well but that’s all it does.

Secondly, is there a way to directly copy formatted text and paste it as plain text (with straightened quotes)? I have written a Shortcut that can do this; but I’m looking for something simpler (an easier workflow).

Thanks in advance,
Peter

For your image editing needs, I would suggest you look at HashPhotos. It can resize, convert a few common formats incl. webp etc. You can also add folders on the device or in iCloud that live outside of your main Photos library. I couldn’t find a “drop shadow” option there though.

If you need a proper image editor, I would suggest Affinity Photo, but it is a high-end app. Will give you drop shadows though :slightly_smiling_face:

“Airwhale”,

Thanks for the recommendation!

HashPhotos is a really good image editor. Your right about drop shadows, but I will write to the developers and ask.

I set up a 3 day trial but after ½ hour I cancelled it and purchased the app.

I can’t find how to access image files from the Files app but I can doo all the editing I need in Photos and then export the file out of photos into Files. I only store wallpaper in Photos. For 30+ years I have stored all my photos and images in file system folders/directories and continue to do so even on my i
Pads.

Thanks again for the recommendation,
Peter

For formatted text, I just cut and paste it into Drafts which removes all the formatting. It doesn’t switch out the angled quotes with straight quotes, though I bet you can write a Drafts action to do that pretty easily.

EDIT: CleanText on iOS/iPad should be able to do this.

Text Workflow will also do all sorts of wonders with text, both on iOS and on the Mac.

I use a shortcut fort this, too. I saw a youtube video just a couple of days ago that showed another way to do this. It was also a bit of a workaround, and I thought my shortcut was an easier approach. If I can find that video, I’ll post it for you to test out.

A really good looking app!

I have just downloaded a copy.

I already have something similar - Text Case - but this looks better.

Thanks!
