Same here, I tested the beta and iOS does not offer swipe; and moving the cursor with the space bar is slow and not so smooth like with the “normal” keyboard. Replacement of words works only with the Typinator keyboard.
iOS version is not really helpful.
I’ve used Ergonis products for years but I have to be honest. Annual Subscriptions for utilities simply doesn’t make sense. What is the justification for apps that shouldn’t have much cloud dependencies? I see the new AI features but they just don’t really apply to workflows that I need
That’s disappointing. There doesn’t seem to be much reason to upgrade. I typically don’t type on iOS.
However, what is really disappointing is that the Mac version’s basic license covers minor bug fixes, whereas the advanced business and enterprise versions cover regular updates for new macOS and iOS versions.
Lol. Vibecoded and yet subscription. I think devs just need to pay AI bills. Guess I’ll be offboarding from Typinator and moving back to Alfred + sync with iOS text replacement workflow.
One of the critiques on Typinator was the lack of an accompanying iOS app. Version 10 does address this point, and preparations have been made for also supporting Windows.
Basically, Typinator 10 seems to improve support on the company-oriented customers.
For macOS-only private users, the (current) improvements seem limited, as version 10 seems to be a mainly architectural update (which does not indicate for a vibe-coding exercise). At this point in time, I do not have a urgent reason to upgrade, though I am interested in seeing future point-updates for version 10, as this is potentially laying groundwork for future improvements.
To confirm, that isn’t an ad on the Space bar. You can have different languages and the EN simply shows you it’s the English layout.
I’ve been using Typinator mobile through the beta and have settled on a nice workflow where regular typing is generally with the normal keyboard but when I need to access my date stamps / plain text snippets / clean up text / run AI prompts regularly, i switch to the Typinator keyboard and type the abbreviation. Full disclosure - I created some videos for Ergonis on how to use Typinator 10 (full guide) and Typinator Mobile to help with the release and after having several meetings with the team there, I assure everyone there’s no vibe-coding going on!
Not true. Annoying and pointless to disparage a solid member of the Mac developer community that way.
Typinator has been around for 20+ years. Ergonis the parent makes solid software. I’m not a fan of the new pricing, but appreciate finally having access to my large library of snippets on iOS.
Does anyone have a 10 beta version for me? I was stupid enough to enable iCloud sync in the beta. Then I saw that the ‘special’ upgrade price for me was $30, and I decided to continue running version 9. However, version 9 cannot read that iCloud data, so I have lost all my data (and version 9 overwrote my version 10 beta). So I have to go back to a version 10 beta, uncheck the iCloud box again, and I have my data back in version 9! (I hope)
I’m surprised by the amount of negative feedback in this thread so far. I’m always happy to see an update coming from Ergonis and I upgraded right away.
As for the name on the spacebar, I find that to be a very helpful indicator of the keyboard you’re using. How would you know otherwise?
I think the problem that I have with “some” subscriptions is the paywall subscription. They make make sense for some things like my Screencasts Online subscription because new content is being made for me to view.
A software application that provides new features and bugs and allows you to keep them after your yearly subscription / Maintenance to me is idea provided there aren’t too many licenses and backend costs. Apps that tend to have a good runway for new features and fixes work well under the Maintenance subscription. Mature apps are going to be a little harder to add significant new features.
I’m just trying to avoid applications that stop working when the subscription is over for no good discernible reason.
Having reviewed my usage of Typinator (saved over 270+ hours), and reviewing time of the historical upgrade cycle (on average 3+ years between version 8, 9 and 10), I have now upgraded to the stand-alone Basic license for Typinator 10.
@Leegarrett the full guide videos were very nice to see. For me the videos showing the improved usability of the editor, offered a good insight.
