I know UniFi / Ubiquiti has “suddenly” been discovered in the past year by tech bloggers, podcasters, Youtubers, and power users outside of the traditional markets and channels where they have been popular.
I have used (and continue to use) UniFi products extensively, and have sold or recommended them to some of my clients, but I maintain a love/hate relationship with the company, its products, and especially its support policies and how it treats customers.
For those that have some frustration with Apple as it has grown into one of the largest and biggest tech companies, if you are considering UniFi because of all the recent hype, please do your homework.
A very important fact that is not well-known is that the founder owns almost the entire freaking company, even though they are public.
So whenever I get frustrated with some of their policies, product decisions, or business dealings, I have to remember that the CEO is always doing his fiduciary duty - pleasing his stockholders first - especially since that is himself!
“Ubiquiti Inc. (NYSE: UI) is overwhelmingly controlled by its founder, Robert Pera, who owns approximately 93.04 % of the company (~56.28 million shares).”
