Update: I Made a Purchase re: What Do You Think of the iPhone Air?

I would appreciate hearing from those who have used the iPhone Air, as I am deciding between the Air and the Pro Max in the next few weeks.

Pro Max all the way!!!

I literally just picked mine up (256GB in Sky Blue), so I can’t say for sure on anything yet. But first impressions are that this is a nice phone.

I have three areas of concern:

  1. Battery life - though most of the reviews have given me confidence
  2. Single speaker
  3. Single camera - though this camera is even better than the 14 Pro that I came from!

Can report back more as I get some time with it.

I haven’t used it but it reminds me of the first MacBook Air. An exercise to make the device as thin and light as possible without regard to functionality.

Do you also accept first impressions from an Apple Store visit ?

And we all know how that ended.

Certainly, a visit will make an impression. That said, I would value the impressions over the next week or so from those who have purchased and used the iPhone Air. Actual experiences from others would help temper and inform my first impressions. And likely bring up issues that I may not consider. :slightly_smiling_face:

It’s called iPhone Air instead of iPhone 17 Air, and there is no iPhone mini but 12/13 mini.

There may be cheaper but more camera lens on the second generation and later.

Have you thought about the 17? If you look at the comparison on Apple.com it seems the 17 is a better camera at a little savings over the Air. Unless you need the thinner phone.

We got the durability testing and it’s looking pretty impressive.

What I’m weighing, pun intended :slightly_smiling_face:, is whether I’m willing to give up the best camera and more battery for thin and light.

Something else I was thinking about when you posted the other day about this. You mentioned you might be interested in exploring some iPhone photography but don’t have a burning need for certain camera zoom levels.

Tons of photographers out there work with a pancake lens and zoom with their feet. I think you could enjoy photography with a single lens (dual if you accept Apple’s explanation of how it works, which I do).

If you prioritize size/weight for your day-to-day, are willing to throw a battery on for long-haul days, then I think you’d be fine.

Lots of reviews available. Here’s the Verge’s Air vs Pro:

Thanks for sharing this video

It is very thin and light. I’m surprised how much more so than I expected.

I also like the slightly bigger screen. Since there’s no weight “addition,” I feel like I’m getting that for free and it’s nice.

I’m using it side by side with a Pro for the same comparison you’re going through. I put my work sim on one and my personal sim on the other and I’m carrying them both for 12 days. We’ll see.

When you hold it in your hands it will surprise you. It’s way easier to handle than the Pro Max. The weight is evenly distributed, so despite hosting all the components in the plateau, it doesn’t feel top heavy.

Although I usually prefer smaller phones, I find the Air comfortable to use one-handed. Since I often read books on my iPhone, the larger screen paired with its lightweight build makes it an ideal reading device for me.

It’s only been 48 hours since I unboxed it, so I’ll share more detailed impressions in a few days.

That is a good video.

Very happy with my choice to go for an air after years with the pro max.

I didn’t want to give up screen size, but I’ve been fine with batter life. And, when I’m being honest, never really used most of the photography features. I’m usually using airpods when listening to something on my phone. But the real cap on it is that the Air just feels great and makes me happy to use in a way that has only been true of a few prior phones - the 5, the jet black 7…
