Apart from the quality of the photos with the camera, does carrying a small point-and-shoot conflict with light and thin—you would be carrying two rather than one device? I’m not being snarky, a genuine question. 
I don’t carry the camera all the time, just when I think pictures might be likely. As I mentioned, I think cell phone cameras suck. I do that already, so it’s not a difference maker with the Air.

Ok, over here in Malaysia, iPhone Air is not popular and as such Apple’s reseller, probably with blessings from Apple, has lower the price by US$200. The Air is the same price as iPhone 17.
Now, I’m tempted. I really want a bigger screen but don’t appreciate the weight (and price) of the Max.
Any further impression after almost 8 months? How’s the battery holding up? Anyone?

Still loving my air. No battery issues and the form factor in black is just amazing. picking up my wife’s regular pro (not max) feels like handling a brick.

I’m using a 13 Pro and because it’s made of stainless steel, it’s REALLY heavy! Coupled with the Apple Clear Case and wallet, it really is a brick!

My 16P (Titanium) makes me miss my “feather light” iPhone 11.
If Apple keeps making more powerful devices each year to run AI, and there isn’t a breakthrough in battery technology, we are going to need wheels on our phones in another few years.

I still love my Air, too. It’s so light and the battery life has not been a problem for me.

Did you all also own the Apple Clear Case? Does it make heavier? I mean, for sure I will be getting a case for the iPhone and if the case takes away the one advantage of the iPhone Air, then I need to consider this seriously!

Yes, but it’s plastic and I don’t notice its weight.

I found a case that’s so minimal, I’m barely aware that there’s a case on the iPhone. It’s the GRECAZO Magnetic Slim Case Fit for iPhone Air (purchased from Amazon).

So, I took the plunge. Bought myself a blue-tinged Air and the Apple Clear Case. After using for about a day, the weightlessness of it continue to amaze me, despite reading reviews raving about its weight. We are just so used the bricks on our front pocket that having something light again is so refreshing.
I wanted a bigger screen than the 13 Pro that I had yet, I think that the Pro Max is just too big (my wife is using a 12 Pro Max, so I know how that feels in the pocket). The 6.5" Air is just Goldilocks right-size that I am glad my choice was right.
Still not sure if the battery or the camera or the mono speaker will be a factor, so let’s see. I use the phone for reading, surfing, listening to NYTimes video news… so I don’t think I will miss the stereo but battery and camera might be a bigger factor as I use it more and more.
But that non-weight… oh! so good!
(My wife kept on commenting, " it’s so light, so light" that I suspect she’s going to pass the 12 Pro Max to the kids and get the Air herself…)
I owe a longer-term iPhone Air update here!
- Battery Life: Absolute non-issue. I’ve gone on a few week-long work trips with long days of air travel. The battery actually held up better than my iPhone 14 Pro did. Still have 50%+ at the end of most days.
- Camera: I miss the lens options but overall I don’t take a lot of photos. Quality is still great. Non-issue.
- Flashlight: It’s a small problem, but the flashlight mode on this thing is useless. It’s too diffuse and not bright enough to actually help out beyond giving just a little bit of light in a dark room.
Everything else is as good of an iPhone experience as you can expect!
One warning
I accidentally broke my Air (long story for another time). Let me be clear – this was my fault, not related to a weakness of the device. An iPhone 17 Pro would’ve broken in this circumstance too.
The problem was getting a replacement.
I did not have AppleCare+, and opted to do the full device replacement for $799 
. But apparently when my Apple-authorized service center (as I don’t have an Apple Store near me) put in the order, Apple had exactly zero stock of iPhone Air replacements available. It took a month of the service center hounding Apple to finally get a full retail replacement.
Thankfully I had a loaner phone, but is was extremely painful.
So the word of warning: if you break an iPhone Air beyond repair, it may be really difficult to get a full device replacement if you don’t have AppleCare+ and/or if you’re working through an authorized service center. I would imagine Apple Stores have some stock they can work from; that unfortunately wasn’t an option for me.

I haven’t found there to be any difference in the flashlight. Have you perhaps inadvertently slid the brightness on the flashlight way down?
No, I haven’t. Part of the issue is I’m comparing it to the iPhone 14 Pro flashlight, which was brighter and you could focus the beam or make it more diffuse. On the iPhone Air, the only option is a diffuse light.
Huh, I think I see what you mean. I hadn’t noticed the change.
I certainly wouldn’t call the Air’s flashlight “useless.” In my experience it’s still plenty bright enough to illuminate dark rooms, peak behind cabinets, etc.
EDIT: It appears the feature related to this is the “Adaptive True Tone Flash” that comes on the Pros, but not on the Air or non-pro phones. The Air’s flashlight should be the same as is on the iPhone 17, for example.

Adaptive True Tone flash is something I value enough that it contributes to my preference of an older pro model over a newer base model.
That’s interesting! Do you really use flash in everyday situations? In fact, I only looked up true tone flash after reading this thread;) 99.9% of the photos I take on my iPhone are without flash.
