Update: It’s lame, don’t bother / Any Star Trek Fans Planning to watch Star Trek Section 31?

I am a Star Trek fan. I’m looking forward to watching this movie tonight. I hope I’m not disappointed.

I’ve not heard one good thing about, so will probably swerve it for the time being.

It might be terrible, but I’m ready for some mindless entertainment. It’s been a long week. :slightly_smiling_face:

As long as it’s not too terrible, because then your mind re-engages as it contemplates how it could possibly be that bad.

Sure, why not? I have some misgivings but we’ll give it a try. I love Michelle Yeoh. I want to watch some of her early Hong Kong movies, which I bounced off of when I first tried them 30+ years ago.

The missus and I are also discussing a rewatch of all three Inspector Morse series.

Tonight, I just want to be a couch potato!

Well that was truly terrible. I only made it 15 minutes into the movie. My assessment, “lame.”

I heard it was so terrible that it now elevates even the bad theatrically released Trek films.

I don’t mean to be unkind but they must have hired “writers school” dropouts. Frankly, it was moronic.

Maybe we can repurpose this thread a bit… What’s everyone’s favorite good Star Trek movie and favorite bad Star Trek movie?

My favorite “good” one is The Voyage Home. They just nailed the humor with that movie and it’s so fun. Bonus points for Scotty talking to a Mac!

My favorite “bad” one is probably Insurrection. It’s just like a high budget TNG two-parter.

I am staying out of this argument. I love Michele Yeoh but they should have killed off Discovery after season one. No way I am investing any more time in these ridiculous new shows (unless Picard season 4 has everyone from STNG again). They are never going to reach STNG and VOY quality anyway…

Once again Barret, we must accept our differences.

I dislike Star Trek even more than I dislike the Lord of the Rings.

My wife kept her love of both secret from me until after we got married. Twenty-seven happy years have passed, and we’re still together, but every time she restacks the dishwasher “correctly” I remind her of her deception and the shaky ground she sometimes steps on.

That said …
… if someone makes a movie called The Borg of the Rings …
… I’d watch that.

I enjoyed Lower Decks and Strange New Worlds. Lower Decks is a completely different type of show, but SNW feels a little more like older Trek. Discovery was a mess IMHO.

Did they announce a 4th season?

(I thought it was a 3 seasons run)

Nope, it’s over.

I completely agree. Two very good shows, each great in their own way. I was skeptical about Lower Decks but it turned into one of my favorite Star Trek shows ever…such a good show, integrating humor into a show for Star Trek nerds like me!

One of my favorites is TNG: The Best of Both Worlds. I also liked First Contact.

Katie would’ve been pleased to see this topic!

We’ve been showing the kids a bit of TNG. They groan at the dated sets and camera shaking, but the conversational scenes draw them in. One of the best space families.

My favourite “good” movie is The Wrath of Khan. First saw it on TV when I was young and still really enjoy it now.

Of the “bad” ones I also like Insurrection. The skin stretching bit of the villains (Sonar?) just looked too strange. It was also the plot device used to kill off the Starfleet Admiral. The visuals of the Riker Manoeuvre do look great.

I saw “Wrath of Khan” in a theater. When it was over I got right back in line. First and only time I’ve done that.

I enjoyed that one too. I’ve never thought to check, did Herman Melville get a writer’s credit for that movie? :grinning:
