Update MBP early 2015 to Monterey - not working

Hello MPU hivemind

I have an old MBP 13" early 2015 currently on Catalina 10.15.7. Apple suggests that the machine could run up to Monterey. However, in Software Update, I am not offered the new OS. Is there a way that I can force the update? Or is my machine, in fact, limited to Catalina?

(The reason is I have slowdown and hang-up problems at start up – it’s admittedly an ancient beast by now, but I was hoping that at fresh OS might iron out some of the kinks for this occasional fall-back machine. I was also hoping I might set it up for my child to practice typing and computing, and if she has her way, trying Roblox).

I might have answered my own question. I found a tip to boot into safe mode and activate automatic updates. Lo and behold, I was suddenly offered Monterey. OS update currently pending…
