Useless macOS "security" dialog

image

Logged into my Mac this morning to find this question. I have no idea what this NETserver is and why it would need access to find devices on my local network. The name is generic enough that the search engines just are overloaded with thousands of uses of that term.

I have not installed this separately, and also, have not installed ANYTHING new lately. What I suspect is that it might be a component of something that has been recently updated, but how can we know?

What I would like, is to get a link to this file / application as that usually will indicate what it belongs to, not having to go into Activity Monitor to suss it out…

Turns out, it lives below the /Library/Printers/Brother/… directory, so it probably fine, but as warning dialogs go, this really isn’t very good.

How do you usually deal with these situations?

I deal with them about the same as you. Google for things, see if I can figure it out.

The thing that really frustrates me is that a lot of the time with dialogues like this, it remembers what you picked and doesn’t ask you again. So not only do you not have a clue what it is, but you have to deal with it immediately or risk possibly not being able to deal with it later.

Apparently something related to Brother printing software:
