Vintage Macintosh

Here’s a doozie. I have a StuffIt Expander file on a 2018 Macbook Pro. I’m trying to figure out how I can move that file to an Apple Powerbook 5300cs running System 7.5.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Is FTP or something similar an option for you?

Do you have a floppy drive for it?

It doesn’t have any internal networking capabilities from what I can tell. Unfortunately, I don’t have an external modem or network adapter for it.

That’s an idea. I’ll have to see if I can get an USB one for the Macbook Pro.

The worlds before USB…

  • no network, that rues out some options
  • get a floppy drive for the MBP…not sure if you can format the floppy as MFS/HFS
  • wasn’t System 7 able to read PC-formatted (FAT) disks? Somebody might still have an older PC with a floppy drive.
  • if you have access to an older PC: boot Linux, many tools out there to format floppies with ancient file systems
  • send over serial port…but this would mean you have software for than on the 5300…
