Want to solve 2 problems

We bought a house and due to circumstances to long to explain we only have one spot in the ceiling where a bunch of 230V wiring is coming together. Unfortunately non of them is connected to a light switch.

At the same time we need light at the very dark front door (glass) and it’s hard to run power to it.

Thinking of using a wireless light switch module in the light fixture and control it wil one or two wireless slight switches.
The kicker would be if I could use the Reolink video doorbel to turn the light on when a person shows up at the door…

I haven’t kept up with home automation neither do I have a desire to make it a new hobby. It just needs to work….

Home assistant. Unfortunately your fix would be getting it wired up the “correct” way and just be done with it. Family approval will be higher.

But if you really want the automation route you should get home assistant (will need device to run it), you are going to need to have local only devices (don’t use cloud, and don’t use HomeKit as primary for this). Then you can add reolink camera “triggers” (aka line crossing" as a “switch” for a turn on switch automation.

This is all possible, but for something so small I would probably just get it wired.

Now if your interested and automation, and want to start down that route than this could be a great entry into home automation. Home assistant really does bring the home together (and then “expose” devices back to HomeKit for family approval/appeal) as needed.

FYI the hobby of home automation is real and time consuming! But also fun, so be prepared.

It’s concrete walls and ceilings so running a new wire is not an option.

I have a couple of Raspberry’s laying around so I could use one of these to run Home assistant.

What module do you recommend to integrate into the light fixture and what wireless wall switches?

That doesn’t mean running wire isn’t an option, conduit still exists. It just may not be the asthetic you want.

You need to decide which protocol you want. Things like Lutron are probably best bet, but most light bulbs are going to be WiFi so reliability won’t be great. Could consider zigbee or zwave bulb (in which case get matching switch so you don’t have 2 protocols), but you will need to have decent mesh and now a zwave or zigbee hub to connect to home assistant.

If you are ok running conduit this is what I would do, then just get Lutron switch and mess with home assistant to get the camera line crossing as a trigger. If your dead set on trying to do all this wirelessly I would probably price everything out and get stuff that’s returnable (speaking from experience most of the wifi stuff is just not reliable and I don’t think it will do what you want).

I would separate this into two issues - the physical wiring to add a light fixture to the new location and the automation technology to control it and/or trigger the light from another device (video doorbell).

Not sure by your comments if you can wire a fixture in a new location even if you can’t wire a control switch for it?

Concrete is very common in many residential locations around the world. Surface mounting wire covering or conduit is doable, but terrible asethetic for residential.

Commercial electricians/builders can drill into concrete and run wiring, but it depends on the specific layout and construction and whether there is any access above/below the rooms. Cost is certainly an issue, but depending on time planned to stay in the home, “doing it right” can sometimes be justified in the long run.

Just to correct what others have suggested - Lutron Caseta (the consumer system) is not available worldwide. Some higher-end Lutron systems for large custom homes are available outside North America and the mid-range Lutron RA2 Select and the newly introduced (in some countries) Lutron RA3 are possible, but probably too expensive and not within the budget.
