I didn‘t know there was a risk for this to happen: The spotify and world clock complications are burnt into the screen, as I realize now that I tried a different watchface.
(Apple Watch sixth generation)
First I’ve heard of anything like this on an AW. Very troubling. Were you using the always on feature? (I can’t remember whether the AW 6 has it.) If so, it makes me wonder whether I should turn it off on my 9.
Yes, it already has the always on display. It’s not visible on a dark background, only with white.
AFAIK burn in is a potential problem with any OLED screen. I wondered about this when Apple started offering always on screens. I’ll never use this feature.
I favor black backgrounds since they use less energy on a OLED screen and blend nicely into my black AW, so I guess I don’t need to worry about the issue.
Yeah, I wanted to do something different today and tried the white, but I would have reverted it anyway soon. It just doesn’t look good. It’s still a little discomforting to see this. Maybe it will get worse over time.
Burn in is a known OLED issue. Most people who were going to get it noticeably got it in the first two years and did a warranty replacement. High brightness + solid fields in the complication, and extended flashlight use, are the biggest contributors outside of the display being defective.
It definitely stinks that it’s happened to you! Impossible to unsee.
