Waze on Carplay: Suggestions for Voice Commands

I’m using Waze on Carplay and it works fine except that I don’t have much luck interacting with Waze via voice commands.

Anyone have any pointers on how I can report a vehicle on shoulder without taking my eyes off the road?

I don’t have CarPlay but it appears there is a new version of Waze rolling out.

I’ve seen multiple stories about CarPlay problems in the last week or two.
