Weird issue / HomePods + AppleTV = Sound randomly cuts out

I have a set of 1st gen HomePods connected to an 1st gen AppleTV 4k in our Kitchen. Also have a similar setup in the Bedroom, only difference is AppleTV 4k is a 2nd gen model. Same issue on both. Sound would randomly cut out multiple times a day. Restarting the AppleTV or the HomePods would solve this briefly. When 16.4 came out, I thought we were done with this headache. Nope…

Steps I have taken to date:
Reset modem and Wifi 6 router
Replaced Wifi 6 router
Unpaired HomePods and paired them again
Replaced Bedroom HomePods with another set of 1st gen HomePods = no change
Setup both AppleTVs as New

AppleCare support has tried to help, but still waiting for a call from Engineering (not holding my breath for that call) for a possible solution.

Yes, though not as often as the HomePods simply not being recognised as the output for the Apple TV (the warning about cannot connect and switching to another output). Like you, a restart - generally of the HomePods) - fixes it.

Noticed the intermittent cut out more recently, and has happened about 3 times in a week.

I also have HomePod minis connected to my iMac - use them to output music, films etc and it hasn’t happened with those (though the not connecting thing described above has, but not as often as the first gen biggies with the TV).

I have also had a very similar issue my first generation homepods and Apple TV. It was happening multiple times a week but recently has been fine. I have done nothing to fix the problem it just seems to have stopped. Weird.
