Well? Have you updated to iOS18 or Sequoia? What’s it like? So far, so good?

Perhaps I am using it incorrectly, but tried mirroring the iPhone to MacBook and every interaction required me to unlock the phone on the phone. What is the point of that if I have to grab the iPhone every time I try to access from the MacBook.
From what you have said, I assume you are not experiencing this behaviour

I’m not getting that with 1Password. Not sure but I think that’s in the Settings under Websites. You should have an extension section at the bottom with 1Password for Safari in there.

Change the settings to Allow.

See if that helps.

I don’t think that’s doing anything for me. I changed 1password.com to “Allow” and got the pop-up on the next page I loaded.

At the bottom of the window there’s a generic “just do this everywhere” option.

But if you set that to “Allow”, it basically negates this whole feature. But if I have to choose between being nagged on every website and just continuing to use 1Password the way I always have, I’m taking the latter. I feel like this feature might be a swing and a miss on Apple’s part.

That’s irritating. Do you get the pop up if it’s set to deny instead of ask?

Pretty sure at some point in the past I set it to allow everywhere and never thought about it again.

After living with the update on iPad and iOS for a few days, I think the changes to the control centre are the most meaningful for me. I was a heavy user of control centre anyway, and being able to much more precisely customise it is great.

The work to the handwriting engine in Notes has been unexpectedly pleasing, and I’ve found myself reaching for Notes the last couple of days for handwritten notes instead of my usual handwriting notebook app. I might just be playing with a shiny new thing, and also this isn’t really a proper part of my workflow, but I’m kind of intrigued to see if Notes ends up replacing other notebook apps for me. (I’ve written on here before about how Apple Notes is an app I keep reaching for even though I don’t intentionally use it, because it’s just there and has been for so long.)

British-specific remark: For mysterious reasons (I have no idea why), the widgets for Hive have disappeared with iOS18 and you can’t add them back, so now it’s not possible to control your heating from the home screen or the widget slide over thing on the left. Hopefully they’re working on a fix because this is actually quite annoying, particularly as it’s landed right as the seasons are changing and a lot of us may not have switched to a winter schedule yet.

I still hate Photos. I can see that I am not the user the updates were aimed at, but they’ve really ruined the app for me. To the point that I’ve been idly wondering how I would set up some kind of third party photo stream instead that does what I want.

The exact opposite, unlocking the phone disconnects it from the mac.

Count me surprised! Seems to be a bug, I think, when Calendar displays de “1 more” label the reminders cannot be moved.

Must be me then. Thanks

If you go into the iPhone Mirroring Settings, you can automatically authenticate. When I used it for the first couple of times, I had to input my iPhone pass number, but now it just opens up on the desktop.

(I think I have understood you!)

This year I decided to YOLO it and upgrade my mac instead of waiting for the x.0.1 or x.0.2 release as I have in past years.

The only thing that’s not working as expected for me is that I’m unable to use mosh to log into my mac from either of my ipads or my freebsd laptop. So far I’ve ruled out the firewall, vpn, and little snitch as culprits and suspect it’s some kind of permission thing that’s not allowing mosh-server to allow connections over the non-privileged UDP ports that mosh uses.

I’ve come across two issues, 1 iOS and 1Sequoia

  • In iOS18 Carrot Weather and other Grailr apps don’t produce any sounds (not even the insults) unless I use my AirPods. Other apps work fine. I couldn’t find any reports of this.
  • I’m getting totally annoyed by the green window button no longer doing what I call Optimize, where it goes to the vendor suggested optimal size. It doesn’t seem to be an option anywhere but for some apps Window–>Zoom will do this. It could at least have been a choice in the new Green Button popup menu. I did find that BTT but not BST will do it (Zoom Window Under Cursor action)

Carrot Weather is making all the right sounds through the phone speakers for me.

Do any of you use tinted icons on iOS? I think it looks really cool at first. And having a new phone I also like to have that novel feel to it. But in the details it gets a little annoying. Some icons are hard to recognize or just don’t look good. All the photos from the photos widget get shown in black and white and other widgets are really hard to read or discern. I’m afraid it’s too much.

I like the idea but I use custom icons on iPhone, and I have no desire to mess with the icons on my iPad, so I’ve not really played with it.

I don’t like it. But, I like the “dark mode” for the icons, though.

I use it only because of less distraction (practicality). But for aesthetic, it’s ugly.

I have an issue of my wifi since iOS 18. Can’t access online contents through Booking.com, Trainline, as well as being unable to connect WRAP on 1.1.1.1, download or update apps. Mobile data doesn’t have any problem at all. I fixed it after resetting network settings on my iPhone and iPad.

I used to have WiFi issues at home but it is just less reliable and sometimes slow. I don’t know if it’s my wifi or ios18 or both. I don’t have any issues on my devices which can’t be upgraded.

I’m not experiencing any problems but others are. I did a google search using: wifi slow ios 18

and found postings describing problems similar to yours.

Resetting the network settings on your iPhone and iPad was one recommendation that has been suggested, so you’ve already found one solution. Others include deleting VPN settings and turning off Wi-Fi assist.

As far as booking.com and trainline.com I would check any ad blockers, etc on my devices or router. I have eero plus on my router with ad blocking turned on and found found it blocks sponsored links on Google, etc.

Wish I could be more help but, IMO, this definitely looks like an Apple problem. So you might have to wait for a fix.
