Well? Have you updated to iOS18 or Sequoia? What’s it like? So far, so good?

I think I’ve hit the “perfect storm” of new iOS version, Carrot Weather update, and new AirPodPros all at the same time. Let the finger pointing begin!

I switched to dark icons as well now. It’s a pity you cannot set tinted for the icons alone, without tinting the widgets.

Thanks WayneG for help! I should have no problems right now.

For Booking.com and Trainline I mean on their app but I can visit their website. Supposedly there are no iCloud Relay and ad blockers when using apps.

Before resetting network settings I tried deleting VPN profiles and changing DNS to automatic however they don’t work.

Though I typically wait for the first point release, this year so many people reported zero problems running the betas that I nearly relented and updated immediately this time. (I love new features and the temptation is always very strong!) But enough issues seem to have slipped into the first public release that I’m glad I’ve held out so far.

So far I like all the little updates. Calendar, notes, RCS, tap back.

But can someone explain what’s going on with RCS…. I have it turned on, but for some of my contacts that have android phones in the text box it doesn’t say RCS but on some it does say it. Can anyone tell me why?

My thoughts exactly.

Did you all know that the avatar in login screen can be set as animated memoji and the memoji will show irritation when wrong password is entered, or, slowly falling asleep with his mouth opened when there is no activity? So fun!
(This has been around since Monterey)

I’m having wifi issues on iPad, I know it was the update because it coincides exactly with it, it just took me a couple of days to realise. I keep getting a “network is spotty” alert in an app I use, and weirdly I’ve noticed one website (not this one!) is struggling to keep me logged in (I have no idea why and it seems an odd thing that won’t be related to wifi, it must be a cookies and privacy issue? But then why aren’t all websites having problems?).

I’ve actually always had WiFi problems on my iPhone (signal dropping out for no reason) and have never really relied on it for mega internet use, so I can’t say if that’s affected too.

Depending on how deep into this I go I may start a thread, but this has been the most helpful list of options for photo apps I’ve found so far: 9 Best Photo Organizer Apps for iPhone in 2024

For me, Slidebox and Mylio Photos look the most interesting (weird though that Mylio is built privacy first but then is collecting quite a bit of data on users… I very rarely install apps that collect that level of user data). I really don’t want a subscription either, especially since I’m only looking for an app because Apple have ruined the native one!

A word of warning: be careful looking in the App Store, I noticed there’s another photo app surfacing as an ad with the same name as Slidebox which isn’t the one reviewed here. It’s probably fine (and may suit your needs better) but I don’t approve of such predatory advertising. I’m planning to do a “freeform” rummage around in the App Store to see if there are hidden gems that are not getting promoted.

It does that for me and I find it amusing. I never turned it on though, it just happened once I created the Memoji.

It was easier to spot in Monterey when the avatar icon was bigger. Ventura onwards shoved the icon to the bottom row and made it smaller. I doubt anyone would have noticed that fun animation.

Have you exchanged messages with those contacts since the iOS 18 upgrade? If you haven’t, maybe there needs to be a “handshake” to confirm that RCS is available?

I almost clicked the update to Sequoia button today but chose to update Sonoma instead…Phew.

It’s curious that iPadOS 18, after being pulled, still has not been re-released for the M4 iPad Pros. It seems to have been a bigger issue with those bricked iPads, a week later and there’s still no update available.

They working on it apparently. I’m glad I had the intuitive foresight somehow to update to iOS 17.7 first not knowing if that was good for anything. But it appears it might have been. The horror it would have been to live without my iPad Pro M4 for a week or more

Did you all notice that Calendar in iOS can now display two-days calendar? I need this! It’s good! Now, if only Calendar Sequoia does that too.

I just discovered that I can no longer use Apple Pay on my iMac since upgrading to Sequoia. It says I must use a Magic Keyboard. I used to be able to verify using my Apple Watch.

I like the new calendar changes. So far it’s nice.

In case anyone needs to downgrade from Sequoia:

A Magic Keyboard with Touch ID, I assume? Aside from the expense, since Apple doesn’t sell a standalone Touch ID button that’s a lot of wasted desk space if you prefer typing on a different keyboard.
