Looks like they want you to use the Magic Keyboard with Touch ID. There has got to be a way to change authentication method. Does the Mac allow you to unlock it with your watch?
I use an external keyboard, and am not buying a Studio and Display until the Display has Face ID. I refuse to give over that much desk space to a keyboard I won’t use.
I’m betting that this problem is a bug, as it worked fine with Sonoma. Since I’m in the AppleSeed Beta program, which allows me to submit bug reports, I upgraded my iMac to 15.1 Beta, verified the problem is still there, and submitted a bug report.
I am having trackpad issues on MBA M2 since updating. It just sticks for about 5 seconds when I use it. The keyboard input also has a delay registering input although it’s slightly less. Anyone else seeing this?
I now have quite a few Bluetooth issues with mice, keyboards and headphones regularly dropping connection.
Another odd one is with the screen savers. For example, I can change the screen saver from Sequoia to Macintosh fine, but I can’t change any of the settings within the screen saver - I can’t get Macintosh to play the grey version, only the spectrum version. Very strange and oddly really annoying.
I’ve encountered an issue with the Google Drive client on Sequoia - it’s persistently using 50% CPU, even after a week and it’s not claiming to be doing anything. There are a few other reports online.
The solution was to stop using it… I’m mostly using OneDrive and iCloud anyway. Mac now cooler and faster!
One other issue, with Apple Mail on Sequoia. I often use Undo Send to check something. Twice now the email I spent a long time composing has simply disappeared when I’ve done this. I’m then unclear whether it sent, evaporated, will be sent at some point in the future… or what…
I’m going to have to go back to using the Outlook client, which is a pain.
Thanks. The issue isn’t the delay time, and I want to keep the feature.
A little more searching shows this is a bug that has affected mail since 2022, so not Sequoia specific. It turns out, if you “undo send” twice, the email simply disappears. However, the good (or bad?) news is it may get sent eventually… someone on the web reports it finally sending all by itself after 25 minutes (without any opportunity to re-edit). There’s no way of finding it in the interface meantime.
I expect better from what is a pretty simple email client. I’m now stuck not knowing whether to recompose, or just wait and hope.
I don’t use Notes app regularly, but today I opened it up to write a draft of email
I found that in updated Notes app, there is auto complete for every word (!) i.e. when you are writing the words will autocomplete
I found it really annoying, as I keep getting confused in middle of typing. I couldn’t find any option in Notes settings to disable this either
Does it affect anyone else? I do understand that some people might find it useful, but for my workflow it’s an absolute no!
I’m not going to start a new thread on this as I’m not sure there’s much to say, but for now I’m using HashPhotos and think it’s an undiscovered gem. It has the same functionality Photos app used to have, but so much more. In fact it’s made me realise what a minimum viable product Photos app was/is, when small developers can offer such a more thoughtfully designed product!
The app is freemium, but the yearly cost is less than £10 anyway (I’m not subscribed yet, I don’t think I need any of the premium features). It integrates with Photos so all changes in Hash appear in Photos (some apps don’t do that I’ve learnt). All the processing is done on device. There are loads of customisation options so you can tweak it to suit your needs, e.g. I’ve turned on the function to strip all metadata from images when sharing elsewhere (so that location info etc isn’t embedded in the files). It’s also got this cool tray feature where you can collect images into a “tray” and then process them together afterwards. This is handy for example if you want to gather up multiple photos to export them somewhere else. For people actually using their devices for photography, it’s got some good options for sorting by file type (png, RAW, etc.) and other things (I don’t use this so can’t comment on it, just flagging for others who might be interested!).
So far I’m a fan! It does what I need (replaces the view and functions like favourites we’ve lost with the iOS update), but it also does other things that make life easier. I wouldn’t have gone looking for a photo manager app if Apple hadn’t made Photos worse, but I’m glad I did.
@alvinc It’s not just Notes, it was launched across the OS. IIRC it was part of the keyboard rebuild, it’s not a Notes function (in Notes it presents in the editor screen, but in lots of other apps it presents in the grey banner above the numbers row).
Other software does it too now, e.g. Google’s workspace apps.
I agree it’s annoying, but I’ve learnt to ignore it.
