You’re probably not preparing it properly:
I have 2 of them in my travel kit. They went to so many countries with me, they have their own passports.
As for voltage: Apple stuff works with 110-220. As do most laptop chargers, cell phone chargers, etc.
My wife just finished a Fulbright Fellowship at the University of York, she was there since January with her MacBook Pro, iPad, watch, and iPhone. As others have pointed out, the Apple gear handles 110-220 quite well, the only issue is getting the right adapter plug to fit into the outlet. She got these and everything worked just fine.
As for cell phone coverage, she got an ATT international plan for the months she was there. Easy peasy.
I travel to Europe and the UK very often and I just remove the plug part of the standard mac power adapter and replace it with the appropriate prongs.
And if you’re in London this is the best place for coffee (in my humble opinion)
