What are your top dictation app flows/tricks? (WisprFlow, Superwhisper, etc.)

Hi MPUers, what are your go-to dictation prompts, modes, and automation flows in tools like WisprFlow, SuperWhisper, VoiceInk, Spokenly, Fluid Voice, etc.?

I’m especially curious about:

  • Your default setup (any must-have templates/prompts/modes, hotkeys)
  • App-specific workflows (email, Slack/Teams, notes/Obsidian, coding, docs, forum posts)
  • Post-processing steps (grammar correction, summarization, etc?)
  • Any automations you’ve built (perform web searching via dictation, etc)

If you share a concrete example (e.g., “I press X, dictate Y, it outputs Z into app A”), and what you’ve tried that didn’t work.

I’m looking for some great workflows. This thread is going to be great.

On my Mac I have SuperWhisper set to CMD + Left Arrow to Toggle. I can dictate and then it adds the transcript back into the active application. I find this very quick and no need to switch between apps.

That is my experience as well and I like it.

I use option-space, since command-arrow is used for text navigation (isn’t it … hope I’m not making stuff up). I use the best parakeet. I don’t have any LLM fixing up the text. I’m almost always typing into an AI, so it’s better this way.

I use VoiceInk. Right option key to start/end. Apple Transcription model, with GPT-OSS120B enhancement via Groq (API Key), default prompt. I’ve tried many of the other available models and this is the fastest/best output for me.

I’ve entered about 30 custom dictionary words for names of clients/accounting specific jargon etc.

I have used Spokenly across Mac and iOS and it works great, with local models on both, or also with API key.

I just purchased (single-buy) a new app on Mac, http://sotto.to which is local-first and works great. It had a built in set of other features with Shortcut support and more

Sotto looks shiny. Interesting! Thanks for sharing.

I just purchased Sotto. I now have Wispr Flow, Superwhisper, and Sotto. I’m testing them all.

I’ve gone the simplicity route and I am liking memo ai from the creator of NotePlan. I just want a button to record, good accurate transcription, and some bullet points. It saves the transcription in the app and I can export easily. Just wish it had some sort of sync between devices.

I almost went down the rabbit hole of downloading a ton of apps, but memo ai works. I’m testing out Gemini Live for brainstorming and talking through ideas.

Also looking at getting a Streamdeck to handle activating recording on my Mac.

In principle, I’m drawn to NotePlan and Memo.ai, but I just can’t justify the subscription. :frowning:

That’s understandable, I’m at the point where I will pay a little more to not need to tinker with things. My pattern is I tinker, get a complicated set up and then never use it.

Memo AI feels pretty seamless and convenient.

Does it work outside of NotePlan or just in NP?

I tend in the opposite direction. I try to simplify too much and then revert back to a bit more complex workflow. :slightly_smiling_face:

It’s stand alone, it can export into PDF and markdown. You can try it for free on TestFlight right now.

Haha, I’m still searching for that balance.

Is there an Apple Watch workflow out there using these shiny new tools? Seems like a “killer app” for raise-to-wrist or the Action button.

I’ve been using Superwhisper. It’s great on the Mac but the workflow/UI on the iPhone seems strange.

It is, but it works. :slightly_smiling_face:

I just posted this: From Handwritten Notes to Polished Article: Apple Pencil + AI + SuperWhisper + Ulysses

I’m still loving Whisper Memos on Apple Watch. One button to start recording dictation, holds up to 90 minutes per instance, then the text goes to Drafts automatically via email Drafts integration.
