Good timing. I’ve been fiddling with my RSS setup lately. Was using Inoreader exclusively on the Web interface, on both the Mac and the iPad. Continuing to use Inoreader for some filtering, but switched the feeds I actually read to NewsExplorer, which I liked fine but I decided I like Inoreader better so I’ll probably switch back.
Also, I subscribed to a whole bunch of newsletters in lieu of RSS feeds, but decided i don’t like that so I’ll probably go back to RSS.
Later, I expect I will rearrange the deck chairs and then put them all back where they were.
Does Netnewswire have the ability to convert newsletter to RSS “articles?” or is that something a feed service would have to do? For example, feedbin or inoreader.
NetNewsWire does not support that ability, but you can use the free Kill the Newsletter service to convert newsletters to RSS, and then subscribe to the RSS feed in NetNewsWire.
Nowadays, I’m cautious about free web services for privacy and security reasons, but Kill the Newsletter seems to be legit, a throwback to the days when people made free services and gave them away as part of the Internet gift economy.
I’m using Reeder, with TheOldReader.com as my back-end. Works well for me.
I generally use Reeder on iPhone and iPad, and just go directly to TheOldReader.com web site on desktop.
I’ve purchased a used multiple versions of Reeder but finally gave up on it because, as I recall, it took 3 or 4 clicks to delete a story in Read Later. Not acceptable when you have several hundred items you want to clear out.
I’ve gone back to NetNewsWire and added Goodlinks for read later.
I’ll take a look at KtL . If I can forward newletters to it, that would be fine since they contain public info . If it needs access to my Mailbox, then it’s not an option that I’d consider.
You can absolutely forward newsletters to it. No access to your mailbox required or even possible .
That said, for most newsletters, I just sign up using my KtN address. Simpler that way—fewer hops where the newsletter might get caught in a spam filter.
NetNewsWire has a local database. You can Star articles and they will be downloaded and saved locally. I have articles from defunct blogs saved years ago and still readable locally.
Feeeed is a great and fun RSS app. I would recommend it to anyone. iCloud sync, nice widgets, and just a fun UI. I think it’s only in beta still, so you need to get it on TestFlight here. Nate Parrot is the developer (he works for The Browser Company too).
I quickly tried it out. Like it generally. But I Fotos it significantly less polished than Reeder or News Explorer. Those two are my favourite RSS apps.
Never heard of feeeed and I really like it! So many RSS apps seem to have the same 2 to 3 pane design. I like what he’s done with this app. The one big thing really missing for me is the lack of folders to organize feeds.
