What paper shredder do you recommend?

Anyone have a good/reliable paper shredder they use for home office and would recommend? I have a backlog I need to shred but after that should be pretty light duty except during tax season. Are the AmazonBasics any good? I need cross cut since I deal with sensitive docs quite often.

My cat actually does a great job at shredding papers on my desk. He’s not for sale, though.

Seriously, I’ve given up using home office shredders. I’ve purchased several models from Staples, but they burn out or jam when you do more than about 50 sheets. And you’ve got all that shredded confetti to throw out. Nowadays, if I have something I need shredded I take it to my office and put it in the locked bin for collection by our secure shredding service.

After my mom died and I was her executor, I had 70 years worth of paper to sort, scan and shred. I bought [this one from Fellows](Fellowes 3825001 Powershred 225Ci 100% Jam Proof 22-Sheet Cross-Cut Commercial Grade Paper Shredder https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002M819JO/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_4gOOBbNB6R9XJ). It has held up and we use it daily at my office as well. Fellows are more expensive than something you can pick up at Office Depot, but those don’t work in my experience. Fellows also has a tool to help you pick which brand you need that is helpful. Like Fujitsu for scanning, I would not buy any other brand of shredder than Fellows.

That was my plan as well, until I found out the bin isn’t locked for some reason. The office bin, not the cat

Here’s another one from Fellows that I remember reading about. It has great reviews on Amazon and if you only need to shred during tax season it might be worth considering as is it about half the price. I remember reading helpful reviews when I bought mine, but I can’t remember where. Try out wirecutter for starters.

Thanks. We had a Fellowes at my old firm and it was a good one. I will check those out.

I have been happy so far with this one from Staples (presuming they are an option)

The Amazon Basics shredder that I purchased is very light duty. If fed more than four sheets of paper at a time it bogs down. When it breaks, I will take the advice from the folks on the forum.

I have a Fellowes DS1400C I got as Sam’s Club a long time ago. Works flawlessly. DO remember to oil the blads occasionally.

We bought this AmazonBasics shredder https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01M0FMM70/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1
It has worked fine, just recently shredding 2500 checks in one session. It does 15 sheets at a time and is rated for 20 minutes continuous runtime. It was $100 when we bought it, but has recently gone up to $115. I’ve also bought the AmazonBasics shredder oil sheets which seem to be a good deal. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01H7M7BXM/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I’d trust the Wirecutter guide:

I’ve got the AmazonBasics 12-sheet cross cut shredder recommended by The Wirecutter. It’s worked fairly well. I’ve only managed to jam it up once.

I’ve got a Fellowes with about a 5 gallon bucket sized can under it that I’ve used for 15 years or more, sounds like their quality isn’t as good these days. Mine will do something like 20ish sheets at a time. Can’t help with a new recommendation as mine still works great.

Perhaps it’s a result of the good reviews, but the Amazon Basics 15 sheet cross-cut shredder I bought January 2018, mentioned here in September 2018, was $100 when I bought it, was up to $110 by September, and is now $127. Crazy considering the 12 sheet version is half the price.

Anyway, it’s still munching away just fine, but I do run a sheet of oiler paper through it every month.

Dude, there are just a huge number of them on the market and it all depends on where you work and how much paper you are going to destroy. This is a machine but it cannot work for a production shredder and there are a number of conditions. I personally chose a suitable model for a very long time and always faced any difficulties in their work. The most information I learned about AmazonBasics 6-Sheet Paper Shredder and I did not regret that I started using this shredder because it works just amazing. There were no problems with it!
