Does Instapaper have the digests feature natively. The Instapaper App is now native to Kobo?
It used the email to Kindle feature to make the digests.
I’m reading the help docs about the native Kobo integration and it looks like it has you selecting articles to read–which is cool, but a little less analog-feeling than I would want if reading on eink.
I used K-Tool with my Kindle, I switched to Kobo after Amazon revoked the right to store the Kindle files offsite.
I’m a big Feedbin fan.
Feedbin.com on desktop, Unread on ios & ipadOS. I setup starred articles go my notetaking app, Workflowy (I believe that’s through zapier), and sometimes I’ll send to Readwise Reader or Raindrop manually.
Until recently I was using Feedly and Goodlinks. Now I’m trying to decide between NetNewsWire + Goodlinks, or Reeder classic + Goodlinks.
I only read/save on my iPad Air but I have to export PDFs from Goodlinks on Mac if I want clickable links.
That’s great news! Glad you asked!
Why the doubt between Reeder Classic and NetNewsWire?
Over the last 12 years or more, I’ve tried a bunch of RSS apps but always go back to News Explorer. Single purchase, does everything I need it to and more, and Ron is an extremely responsive dev when it comes to questions or occasional bug reports.
And I use GoodLinks for read later.
IMO, they are more or less equal. I’ll probably make a decision in the next week or so.
Yes, I should say I didn’t move to NNW instead of back to Reeder for any particular reason. I just wanted to take the opportunity to catch up with how NNW’s doing.
I’m optimistic about its ongoing development; Brent Simmons recently retired and plans to spend more time on it.
It might get an update (later), as its author posted this today:
- Reeder Classic (Instapaper integration) for articles that I want to read later
- linkding for references
Feedly powers the back end, with classic Reeder on iPhone and iPad. I generally use Feedly in browser on the Mac.
Feedly’s biggest weakness, IMHO, is how it handles newsletters. But, I’ve been with Feedly forever, and it’s pretty efficient in capturing RSS feeds in a timely manner.
I tried out Readwise Reader for a long time, but for iOS/iPadOS, it’s just not efficient or intuitive.
Readwise overall is on my ‘to cut’ list for 2026. Great service, but I’m not really getting the value from it that I thought I would.
NNW has an affective appeal to me: I used it a long, long time ago!
Interesting. I really hope Silvio don’t abandon Classic Reeder project
Reeder Classic + Inoreader is the best combo. You can stop researching…
Reeder Classic IS receiving an update. They fixed the issue that was mentioned on MPU with articles not showing up on left swipe and they literally just posted saying they’ll be updating Reeder Classic to OS 26.
Agree. This is the best Reeder Classic alternative, though I’ll stick with Reeder Classic until it breaks.
The reason I don’t use NetNewsWire is that it doesn’t support thumbnail images in list view. This is essential for me because so many of my feeds are image heavy so I can make the decision to read or skip or not based on the image. Huge time saver.
Here’s my feed just now.
Another vote for News Explorer! If I come across something there that I want to read later, I send it to GoodLinks.
If the item you’re reading has comments, you can display them in the right sidebar without having to go to the website itself. You can add notes and tags, inspect media, and inspect metadata.
Do we actually need a read later service? I’ve reverted now to just using DEVONthink for RSS, and plain old Safari bookmarks and reading list.
