While there are no current plans for advertising influencing its answers, you better believe that when they realize someone needs to pay for this it will get enshitified with ads, just like Google Search. You will be directed to that restaurant or shop that paid for placement.
Google Maps has contained paid advertisements for at least the past ten years, so I would expect that to continue. Round pins are standard business locations, Square pins are âpromotedâ businesses (i.e. paid ads).
Since this feature appears similar to the Gemini Maps feature built in to some Mercedes Benz cars Iâm wondering if it will work with my Google Workspace business account or the Google One accounts of others.
I donât mind advertisements if they arenât intrusive, but Iâd prefer if this turns out to be part of GW Gemini.
I agree about the paid ads in Google Maps, but my concern is that if you tell Gemini âtake me to the nearest coffee shopâ it will route to one that has paid them rather than the one that is truly the nearest.
If we note where weâre at when we give the command, it would be easy to determine if Gemini selected the correct coffee shop.
That would be a good test to do from time to time. ![]()
