This thing has been stuck for hours. I tried restarting my laptop multiple times…I tried syncing this in a different folder…I tried killing the iCloud processes (killall bird and killall cloudd)…I tried renaming these files…my laptop battery is 100% connected to charger.
Nothing works, like…is this a real service? This is so bad. Cloud sync services has been so stable for more than a decade. Even small companies are able to have really good sync. This isn’t even a new technology.
Like WTH arghhh. This is just 1MB of data. C’mon man…
it would be very helpful if Apple would share at least something about the design specs for iCloud. It’s obviously intended to be very much a background set of processes handled by the OS and using minimal bandwidth at all times. That was much more appropriate in its early days, when mobile data was very expensive and internet speeds were low. Dropbox and others were always intended to be much more “instant” sync and much more demanding of CPU and bandwidth.
The opacity of iCloud is a serious issue. You often don’t know that it is failing (with a particular file or in general) until it leaves you completely in the lurch and there is just about nothing you can do about anyway.
I am thinking the perceived quality / speed of iCloud could be related to geography and what datacenter happens to be hosting your files.
I’m in Sweden, and I have found iCloud to be better than MS OneDrive and generally stable and reliable. Of course, the constant “Sync paused” messages in Photos are annoying and a design decision to preserve battery, but easily sidestepped by hitting “Sync now”.
Yes. And the problems most people encounter today are the same problems people have been having for years.
Earlier this year Tim Cook said Apple has more than 2.35 Billion active devices worldwide. IMO, if Apple thought iCloud performance was unacceptable they would have fixed it years ago.
I’m also having issues with iCloud since last night.
Now, my question is: why can I add files to my Files app on iPhone and they sync to iCloud web, but not working when it comes to my MacBook (sending or receiving)?
I mean, if the issue is with iCloud itself, why does it work with some devices, but not others? I’m no expert here, and I’m genuinely interested in understanding this, because it’s getting very frustrating at the moment.
If it’s an issue that Apple has to fix, then I won’t be wasting more hours (yes, I’ve been trying every option possible, even deleting ALL my files in iCloud web, for hours now).
Can anyone just clarify this for me?
Thanks!
EDIT: when I run brctl status in Terminal, I get a long list of what I think are errors, but ChatGPT / Claude / Grok haven’t been able to help me with it. I get a long list like this:
