Why is Siri now saying "someone" sent you a message

why Siri all of a sudden saying “someone sent you a message" or “someone sent you an audio message”… Rather than saying the name of the person as it used to.

This is incredibly frustrating and I don’t know why it’s happening.

Is this happening to you?

When you look at the actual messages in the Messages app, is it from a recognised person in your Contacts?

Is it possible that there are multiple contacts with the same contact information, so Siri doesn’t know which one it is?

Have you changed any privacy settings recently?

If it’s neither a bug nor a setting, could it be a new privacy feature? Perhaps it’s designed to prevent others in the room from hearing that you’ve received a message from a specific person.

The contacts haven’t changed - so no, there are not multiple contacts.

The only recent change I’ve made was to reset my network settings, due to some issues that I was having… but surely that’s unconnected

Yeah… I would agree with you, but for the fact that I’m on headphones when it’s doing this. So the other people hearing issue isn’t an issue either :man_shrugging:t5:

I’ll review the privacy settings but I’ve not changed those I don’t think

But, would Siri know that?

Discovered that this only happens when trying to deliver WhatsApp messages to me and the phone is locked

Are your Whatsapp notifications set not to show detail unless unlocked? If so what happens if you change that setting?

This is happening to me too but even whilst I am on my phone so it’s not locked.

I didn’t change any settings either. It’s mostly WhatsApp

I do have the setting “show previews when unlocked” which is the default setting.

Anyone figure this out?

I had this too only for WhatsApp, randomly started but also yesterday seemed to randomly start working again.

You can answer the phone while your phone is locked. So being on a call doesn’t automatically mean you’ve unlocked it.

Of course if you initiated the call, it’s likely unlocked.

Hi all, I’m having the same issue with Siri just saying ‘someone sent you a message’ and I agree that it’s super frustrating!

Also, I think I might have just found a solution, someone posted on Reddit chat that updating WhatsApp in the App Store might help fixing it.

Same. It started working randomly and then reverted back to this “someone” talk again.

I’ll have to keep an ear out as I wasn’t sure if it had corrected itself again….

Glad it’s not just he though

It’s still ok for me… that’s two days now I think
