So, what are we thinking?
I’m loving the Duo, but can’t justify the price at this moment.
I am lusting after the new Apple Watch Ultra though.

€2600 in the EU for the 512GB model is crazy expensive, and it will be crippled like other phones (no Siri AI, but the price stays the same). I like what I am seeing and might consider this as my first foldable, but I just don’t see the value proposition here, i.e. it is terrible.
I was pretty happy with the 18 Pro announcement, and then I tried to remember how happy I was with it during the Duo announcement. ![]()
Planning on an 18 Pro to replace my 16 Pro when pre-orders open. 2nm is a big performance jump over two generations, and for me it’ll be a 50% memory jump.
The Tim->John transition was clever enough.
Oh boy…
I am super excited about not needing anything from this year’s collection. I priced out a few products and it’s getting crazy.
No phone this year. My 14Pro is just fine. The Duo I would sit on and break. I have no idea to talk to a fancy Siri, especially not at the premiums Apple is charging. IMO, they’re pricing themselves out of a sizable market.

My initial thoughts:
The Duo is the right name and intriguing. But I think the Touch ID, plus it being geared for people who use their right hand (dock and toolbars on the right), make this not for me—especially given the price.
This bodes very well for an iPhone Air 2—if they can get a vapor chamber and dual camera into the Duo, they can fit them in the Air 2. That would be perfect for me. I love my current Air and would like continued improvement.
My bizarre guess: Given what is possible with the Air 2, what would really distinguish it from a plain 18? What if Air 2 is the iPhone 18? (perhaps in two sizes?). (The line would be like the laptops: Pro/Air/Neo::Pro/Air/e)
It’s only $3200 US if you max it out. ![]()
It appears that Apple has pulled out all the stops making the Duo. It’s impressive but my 16 Pro is already heavier than I would prefer.
The one phone number for two iPhones will come in handy for people who decide to keep their current iPhone when they buy a Duo.
I have to say personally I am totally unenthused. My bad maybe. However I was in Buffalo NY when Apple changed the name of the lake I was near. What can you do? I feel more and more that Apple are just another company really… I was ok with Tim Cook as far as it went, I am sure this new guy is super smart too. Hope he does well.
I did get a few nice walks by the Eerie (I won’t look at Apple Maps) canal and looked up at the Moon, or as I like to call it 'Planet America’
. Apparently South Park is in on it too!! Now “South America”.
Wish I had thought of that first…
Whatever way Apple goes I am ok with the MPU gang and, as I said elsewhere, I am mostly there for DEVONthink and Keyboard Maestro and Sparky. I like my Apple Watch but never caught up with all the functions, I use the stop watch, international times and use it to open my Macbook.
My 16 Pro was “built from the ground up for Apple Intelligence” and I’ll be satisfied if they can deliver what they promised in 2024.
Apple’s revenue spiked recently but I wouldn’t be surprised if it dropped back due to today’s economy and their higher prices.
I currently have a 16ProMax, M5 11” IPadPro (which I use a lot) - and am seriously considering trading both in for the Duo. The trade in values for the iPhones are surprisingly solid, which makes this an option. The 11” may survive to live another
I thought the same! Duo looks cool but not worth the price of duo iPhones. But I would like to see multitasking trickle down.
Would love that iPhone Uno.
Google assigns geographical names based on the locale they are serving, and Apple probably does the same thing.
Nothing has changed for people outside of the US.
Actually Lake Ontario (Lake America) is the label in Apple Maps. Sigh
I think you mean for all the podcasters, YouTubers, and other creators that feel compelled to buy both the iPhone 18 Pro and the Duo. Because of content creator FOMO?
I’m impressed that the Duo supports Apple Pencil USB-C.
I’ll be interested to see if they even bother to release another iPad mini. Or what they’ll do to set it apart from the Duo.
I’m shocked that the iPhone 16 in NZ is now 1,699. When it first retailed two years ago it was 1,599.
Duo at ‘only’ 4,199 seems like a comparatively reasonable deal (not that I could afford it without picking up a used one in a year or two).
Basic AirPods getting NC is good. Volume controls on the higher end one is good, but they’d be killer if the base model got it too.
I am on my off year for phones (have a 17 Pro Max). The watches are interesting though. Probably just hold off until the next iteration.
apart from the £1,500?
The iPad Mini is used in a lot of industries like retail and healthcare. And many/most commercial pilots use a Mini or an 11" iPad in the cockpit.
I was also surprised that there was not a thread for today’s announcements. Thanks for staring one! I have used an iPhone for the last 14 years or so, yet I have never purchased one and always had a model that was a few iterations behind. I was provided the iPhone at work and just recently retired so I had to turn my iPhone 13 in, which was working fine. My plan was to use an old iPhone 11 I had in a drawer until today and then purchase a new phone. I am also in the market for a new watch (currently using a aw9 which is fine, but the battery is starting to suffer). While I find the iPhone duo intriguing, the weight I think is a dealbreaker for me at that price. I can get an iPhone 18 Pro AND an AW extreme for the same price ($1999).
