Here’s a quality of live improvement
It’s possible that KM is going to need to integrate with Shortcuts, because Shortcuts could eat away at its market share, at least on the low end.
There is so much invested in AppleScript, including developers using it for internal features of their apps, that I think it would be really difficult to deprecate AppleScript – even with 5 years notice. Did Apple provide any details of what a “multiyear transition” means – from what to what, and when?
You mean a spec-built device just for those services? Why? Macs and iPads and iPhones already support those services. Who would think “gotta get me one of those Apple iZoom computers”?
Gmail has done without this for a decade. You just have to provide correct IMAP and SMTP authentication for the account you want to send and receive from.
Our very own @ismh86 has better details: it seems Shortcuts will launch AppleScripts. I might very well be wrong on this - this was a scrying exercise.
From Quinn of snazzy labs
I could easily see KM donating a “Run Keyboard Maestro Macro” action to shortcuts.
I don’t understand why Quick Notes didn’t come to iOS.
If something changed at Google since I moved email for my personal domains there around 14 years ago I wasn’t aware. No problem, I don’t plan to change providers.
Saludos desde Chicago, Colleen! En cuál parte de México estás?
Gotta get home and watch the Platform State of the Union.
Twitter was gushing about SwiftUI refresh of lists via pull down gesture. The old way must have been a pain.
HSV is likely the only cloud storage I’d accept. I don’t trust vendor that relies on advertising for a good chunk of their revenue storing my personal data at that level
I think a big deal is the on device Siri. Did you notice that one of the things he asked for is to turn on Airplane mode. And then after that, asked Siri to open some more apps? This means you don’t need an internet connection to ask Siri to do things on device! This should make Siri much less frustrating in that a weak or non-existent internet connection won’t render Siri useless anymore.
This was all I wanted, offline Siri. Siri has been so slow for me recently.
ICloud+ Does anyone know if this will cost extra if one has Apple One Premier?
They were specific in that all new iCloud features aren’t extra cost
They said no price change, just what you’re already paying for iCloud. I assume that applies to the Apple One bundles as well.
@ChrisUpchurch and @hmurchison, Thanks. I was just catching up after a meeting so I didn’t catch that. That is good news.
Overall, I’m pleased with the new features announced across the board. I can see myself using most of them.
But I’m still perplexed, given that Apple added security features to Apple Mail, why they couldn’t go ahead and add the Share Extension.
To the extent that Apple invests resources into new features for the Mail app, they seem to go towards features that will benefit the broadest possible array of users. Better privacy benefits everyone, so it gets the green light. A share sheet (or snoozing, send later, etc.) would only be used by a small minority of users. It’s unfortunate for those of us who want Mail to be a power user app, but perhaps it’s best to acknowledge where Apple’s going with the app and either make our peace with it and keep using Mail anyway, or use a 3rd party app.
I weep for iPad
