WWDC 2025 - Video Interviews with Craig Federighi and Greg Joswiak

Probably due to known reasons (“Something Rotten in the state of Cupertino”) Apple declined to be part of John Gruber’s annual WWDC Talk Show video.

Fortunately, there are still videos out there (for those who are interested and have not seen them yet):

WWDC INTERVIEW: Craig & Joz on Why Siri’s Not Ready, AI Vision and iPadOS (Tom’s Guide)

Apple Execs Defend Siri Delays, AI Plan and Apple Intelligence | WSJ

I have not been able to watch the Tom’s Guide video in its full length yet, but especially the WSJ interview shows that Apple really wants to convey the message that Siri 2.0 is and has been real. They even answer Laura Stern’s question about whether they think that Apple is on a down turn right now.

I read elsewhere that Apple may have declined interviews with Gruber because of his harsh critique. I’d like to think that Apple executives were above such a sophomoric reaction. Perhaps not.

Why is Apple falling into a defensive posture? They didn’t get to the top of the Tech Mountain by listening to pundits try to collect eyeballs.

Sometimes you need the top Brass to be a bit abrasive when necessary. “You’re holding it wrong”

The current Apple has gotten a wee bit too folksy at the top. This is what happens when you lose visionary leadership. Kowtowing to investors and Tech Pundits that have achieved very little in the vertical is a surefire path to failure.

The Astro Turf said that people wanted different payment systems and stores and when surveyed the people said the opposite. They valued the comfort from stability and predictability.

I think Apple missed a golden opportunity to really lean into the App Store ecosystem

Most people want security in this world, not liberty H.L Mencken

Trust is everything and Liberty is scary for the masses. They don’t want the Liberty of a thousand LLMs they want the LLM they can trust.

My wife works for Walmart. Yesterday I told of of my struggle with Walmart Pay at the register. I have never had Apple Pay fail me or even become an issue (YMMV) that is the bar.

Which is a scary thing for republics. :slightly_smiling_face:
