I enjoyed my YouTube Premium experience before but it is unlikely that I’ll resubscribe again.
My problem with the UX today from large corporations is that they are designed to enhance the companies initiatives and that’s all fine and good when we’re talking about “Free” access to a given service.
Once you begin to ask me for $140 annually the acceptability and criterion for judging the UX are tighter.
The YouTube UI is changing in ways that I dislike. I don’t like Stories …can’t hide them. I don’t like that they’ve prioritized Clips, a feature I never use, and Downloads over sane content management UI that simply lets me manage what I want to watch and when.
So even if I pay the money I still have to suffer through YouTube’s constant UI/UX changes that rarely improve the experience.
There are many content providers that I wish get properly compensated but the only way to voice dissatisfaction with a product is to not feed the beast.
This price hike easily makes the decision for me when my YouTube Premium trial ends.
YouTube Premium is $13.99/month. YouTube Music is $10.99/month. That’s not a huge difference — only $3/month.
For those who like and use YouTube Music, the new price is probably still worth it. But that’s not me. I’d probably be willing to pay up to $10/month for an unbundled ad-free version of YouTube. Heck, I was toying with the idea of $12/month for YouTube Premium.
But $14/month when I don’t use YouTube Music? No way. Even their $140/year savings is double what I pay to use a full office suite. Sheesh.
Use uBlock Origin to hide everything/anything you don’t like on a webpage. Can’t suggest it more. Unless you are just using the mobile app. Maybe android does have an app for it, not sure
I can understand your point of view about the increase in price though. Maybe try to get into a family/friends plan that costs ~$18/month for 6 members, so like ~$3/month for YT premium and YT music.
I heard in other markets YouTube offers a $8.99 YT Premium subscription without the Music. I’m an Apple Music and Tidal sub …I don’t need another Music Streaming service. I’d hop in for sub Ten Bucks a month for only YT even with the “you’re still the Product” UI/UX
I’m never happy about price increases but Youtube and Prime is the source of most of my TV viewing. And with the writer’s strike shutting down all new production my YT viewing will probably go up.
Indeed. I’m pretty sure they’ve been trialing it in parts of Europe for a couple of years already. In this case the North American market gets no love, though. (Unless there’s an option in Canada or Mexico that I don’t know about…)
