Got the email today that the subscription cost is going up 33%. Was this announced previously? They gave a list of reasons, but F1 Sponsorship, overhiring and poor decisions were not on it.
Seems to be 20% for families?
When did it last go up?
Apple Passwords is not there yet. I’ll be sticking with 1P Families.

Hmm - it was 7,49 for 1PW Families (at least under Version 7) but is probably still ?!
Even if it goes up … about 9 bucks a month is a valuable price for 1PW Families
Creepy that they keep using the words “price update” instead of “price increase”…
Current vs New Pricing:
Current price: $35.88 USD / year
New price: $47.88 USD / year
This was the story 3 months ago…
Looks like it’s about $5-$10 more annually for a family sub compared to Dashlane and Proton Pass.
I’d expect AI powered password generation, but that would be just as dumb.
It’s going up to 5.99US/month for family annual plan.
Both are dumb… Agilebits is just making up stuff now. They reached the limit of what 1password can do and need to justify churning money for their venture backers with imaginary crap. I have 10 months left on my regular priced sub, but then I will move to Apple Passwords…
Inflation alone would account for most of the increase. The US dollar has lost around 25% of its value since I switched to 1PW’s online version.
The longer you live the more you see the cost of inflation. When I was in high school a new, top of the line, Chevrolet Caprice cost around $5000. ![]()
This would be the result of their poor decisions that I mentioned. They decided to force everyone onto costly servers when they eliminated local storage/standalone vaults.
Pricing updates almost always get retroactively applied. Even if a user is grandfathered in. It’s the SaaS way.
The email was worded a bit strangely, but I’ve noticed and appreciated these bullet points:
- Automatic saving of logins and payment details
- Faster, more secure device setup
- Expanded recovery options
I dropped my 1P subscription over a year ago and have had no reason to regret my decision; in fact, I find Apple Passwords much more enjoyable to use.
I understand that some need the advanced features in 1P for organizations, etc. But the average user has no need.
And in Apple Passwords there is no extra fee for adding family members; it’s free just like the app.
And there are multiple secure (and free) options for saving software codes, bank card info, etc. There’s no reason it needs to be in a password app.
Can you share some options for saving software codes, bank cards, etc.? I never dabbled with Apple Passwords due to subscribing to 1P, but may now test it out due to the price increase.
If you are looking for alternatives, I highly recommend Bitwarden.
Simple, similar feature set to 1P, but much cheaper
As an early adopter I pay $4.80 + local taxes per month for 1Password for Families (5+2 persons).
My increase is exactly 20%.
I think there’s still no competing service that comes close for developers?
(Think of features such as a CLI, an SDK, 1Password Connect, Service Accounts and managing SSH keys)
