More like Mac Gemmell!
(Looking forward to the interview.)
I can’t wait for this! As a person who is slowly shifting back to the Mac, upgrading my M1 MBP to a M4 MBA and planning to use that as a main device, I am excited for this ep!
Perfect. No notes.
This was a great episode with a very interesting guest. I just wish Matt had a better mic!
I think @MacSparky should take the opportunity to sell the M2 and buy the equivalent M4. You will never regret updating. However I would think twice about adding 8TB, reason being, you have to farewell that 8TB next time also. Invest in external storage TB5 that can remain with you when you replace your Mac in a few years. I can’t see too many downsides with external storage in this situation, that don’t justify the cost savings and ability for it to last several Macs in the future.
I really recommend Matt Gemmell’s entire collection of E-Ink tablet videos on YouTube. There’s a list here.
I’m really looking forward to this one. Matt’s books are great and he is adorable.
Great episode for sure!
I agree with @Mpacker. David should just pick up a new computer if he can recap a lot of the cost of the old Mac Studio. I agree, just hang some cheaper drives off the back instead of going 8TB…especially if it’s another desktop computer. But even if it’s a rarely-moved laptop, there’s really no difference in hanging cheaper storage off the back than having it inside the computer.
Looked at Matt’s videos and noted his purple streaked wallpaper. Wonder where I could download that?
Can you link me to the video you saw it in? Then I can try to find it for you.
As someone who’s been on a similar journey the last 6 months, I’m about to pull the trigger on selling my iPad Pro 13 M4 and purchase a MBA M4. Haven’t done it yet but expect to soon. Thanks @mattgemmell for the push!
I’m not ready to give up my iPad Pro, BUT, I’m seriously considering downgrading to the 11" Pro (I have the M4 13") and supplementing it with a SuperNote later this summer after WWDC (I also plan to upgrade from my iPhone 13). I’m using the MBP more as well, but I still like to use the iPad for extended writing sessions and reading. I think the 11" would be sufficient, but I want to make sure the screen text is not too small for reading and extended writing, and that the smaller Magic Keyboard is comfortable enough for typing.
I’ve owned an 11in 2020 iPad Pro and current an 11 in M2 iPad Air. If I could justify having two iPads I’d love to have a 13” iPad. But, IMO, it would be a “stay at home” device. Especially if it is combined with Apple’s Magic Keyboard for iPad. I don’t use a separate keyboard most of the time. I manage with the on glass keyboard or use dictation.
When I am doing a lot of typing, I use an old Apple lightning keyboard and separate trackpad that I bought for an Intel MBP. And put my iPad on a stand which places the top edge of my iPad around 13.2 inches above my desk. My keyboard is basically identical to the one on my 13in M1 MacBook Air, 11 inches. Apples Magic Keyboard for iPad is 10.18 in wide.
What you lose in size you gain in portability, IMO. But I’d recommend a trip to the store to try an 11” before you buy.
BTW on my 13” MacBook Air, if I open this site in Safari, then click View, Zoom Out (one time) the text appears identical to my iPad.
I think that’s this one: https://wallpaperbat.com/img/369123-4k-black-abstract-wallpaper-hd-wallpaper-download.jpg
I have the 13" and I take it to and from the office daily. But, for reading and note taking, it is uncomfortably large and heavy. After WWDC, I may try an 11" iPad Pro.
Matt’s new desk is gorgeous.
If I had the Room and the Money, I’d have one solely instead of a small network cabinet due to the ability to rackmount 19” kit in it.
Thank you! I’m very happy with it. I may DIY some mounts for things too, to make use of the 3x3u.
Loved the podcast with you as a guest!
That said, you may cost me $600 for a SuperNote. I’ve not made any decisions, but if my wife yells at me because I purchase a SuperNote, I want you to know it’s your fault!
Seriously, I enjoyed your insights.
