Apple September Event: what you guys ordering?

I ordered AirPods Pro. I bought the first ones a day or two before the pandemic forced the downtown Chicago Apple Store to close and the battery life is starting to fade. I use them for hours every day and am really looking forward to the (limited) “find my” features in the new case.

The iPhone 12 Pro Max had a larger sensor on the main camera than the non-Max phone and the telephoto was 2.5x vs 2x on the non-Max.

Nothing. Prices in euros went through the roof, and even worse, where I live and where there’s no Apple Store the authorised resellers are even more expensive… ca. $1400 for a 128 GB 14 Pro, $1800 for a 256 GB 14 Pro Max. Which is, by the way, for a phone where some new features and upgrades don’t even work outside the US.

The Series 8 watch is 25% more expensive than Series 7 (I initially planned on ordering that and finally upgrading from the Series 3 but given how much I use it, mostly for tracking my walks, I think Series 3 can pull off another year).

@ChrisUpchurch is right. Therefore the 12 Pro Max was noticeably better at zoomed-in pics, as well as low-light photos.

This makes no sense: When I ordered my AirPods the estimated delivery date was for the Monday following release (this part makes sense… the no sense bit follows). Out of curiousity I decided to check if delivery times have slipped, and they have: they’re now Oct 04 - 11. Then I decided to check if adding engraving would create a longer delay and…. with engraving the delivery dates are Sept 28 - Oct 05! How can adding engraving decrease the delivery time??

I’m considering a new AW, either series 8 or Ultra as I’m currently on a series 4. I’m going to wait until they arrive in the store so I can see them first hand before deciding if I’ll upgrade or wait.

This has sometimes been true of other products where Apple has offered engraving. Evidently, they have a separate supply dedicated to being engraved (presumably not already packaged, perhaps shipped to wherever they do the engraving if it’s not the same place unengraved items ship from). If people are ordering fewer engraved items than Apple has planned for, they may have a lower shipping time.

That makes sense. Fortunately this is not an issue for me, but if it were, then I suppose I could just order mine with blank engraving

After 3 years upgrading from a basic 11 to 14 Pro 256 GB Space Black for a better camera and more storage. Pick it up next Friday 9/16.

I think the jury is still out. I like being able to check my heart rate when exercising, but see no need for the ECG. I tried sleep tracking and found it interesting but of little use. The high/low/irregular heart rate notifications are good but they, along with Emergency SOS and fall detection are common to all AW. So why spend the money for the extra sensors?

But who knows what the Apple Watch may become in the next few years.

Thanks for the link. It is complicated, really I think we both over treat and undertreat in the US. But I take your points. One day a deeper dive might be interesting.

I ordered an iPhone 14 Pro Max just after 5 am PDT. ETA: Next Friday (September 16).

I’m currently using an iPhone 11 Pro Max…and this will be a significant step forward. I’m particularly looking forward to the enhanced camera, always-on display, and Dynamic Island. I was also happy to learn about the upcoming satellite connectivity. I’ll probably never need it…but it will be comforting to know it’s there.

I’m fairly certain that I have purchased exactly two Apple things just as soon as they came on the market. First time was me standing in line for my copy of Leopard and a free t-shirt. Second time was the first iPad release. May have done something similar for the iPhone 3G, memory is fuzzy.

That’s about it. Since then it’s been normally refurbed last year’s model. Right now we have a MB Air M1 which I bought last year and two iPhone 13’s bought either late last year or early this year. I forget which. Still sporting our Series 3 watches (in spite of what @MacSparky and @ismh86 said) and an iPad 5th Gen. We’re basically in ‘upgrade when something breaks’ mode and perfectly fine with that.

A new set of AirPods Pro for me - first time I have ever ordered on release day.

For now, the 12 Pro Max will continue onward. I just got a series 7 AW in July.

iPhone Pro Max for my wife and an iPhone Pro for me. Will have to wait for awhile as we’re out of the country.

Nothing for a few years, probably.

based on the feedbacks on this thread, it seems to me that most people (including myself) are less prepared to spend money on off-cycle upgrade of mobile devices (phones, AirPod, Watch, etc) but more readily to invest on good computing hardware (monitors, MacBook, etc). The Apple Siren calls on serious hardware appears to be much stronger

I’m thinking these numbers may refer to something:

or am I overthinking it?
