Dom's Office Setup

Here’s what my setup looks like:

  • iPhone X (256GB)
  • iPad Pro 9.7” (128GB)
  • Apple Watch Series 1 (42mm)
  • 2017 iMac (Retina 5k, 27-inch), 3.8GHz Intel Core i5 with 40GB RAM and 1TB Fusion Drive
  • 2015 MacBook Pro Retina 13”, 2.7GHz Dual-core Intel Core i5 with 8GB RAM and 256GB SSD
  • BenQ GW2765HT 27” 16:9 monitor at 2560x1440
  • pre-2007 Apple Keyboard because I prefer the key travel and feel (until I can justify the CODE keyboard with Cherry MX switches)
  • Apple Magic Trackpad
  • Scansnap ix500
  • Dymo Labelwriter Twin Turbo
  • Rode PSA1 microphone boom arm
  • Audio Technica ATR2100 USB/XLR microphone
  • Mackie ProFX8v2 USB mixer
  • Seneo Qi charger
  • Creative SoundBlasterX Kratos S3 2.1 speakers connected via USB
  • 3M Command hooks (I particularly like the Command Cord Organizer)
  • Amazon Echo Dot in a wall mount
  • Sony MDR-7506 headphones
  • Synology DS216+II NAS with 3T in RAID 1
  • Buffalo Terastation 4TB NAS
  • Autonomous Ergochair 2 desk chair
  • 2 Anker 5-port USB chargers
  • Belkin Thunderbolt Express Dock (2013 vintage)
  • Samsung 40” 1080p SmartTV on a VESA mount
  • AppleTV 3rd gen

Oh and the wall sconses have Hue bulbs, of course. The desktop wallpaper are images from Matamata, New Zealand of the Hobbiton Movie Set.

Curious: How do you manage to hookup the old-skool Apple keyboard to your current system?

It’s USB. USB keyboards replaced ADB keyboards back in the 90s.

I have an Apple extended ii at work that is ADB. You’ll need the discontinued iMate adapter to get it to work with usb

Interesting you just have 3TB in the Synology, why just that amount of space?

I had moved the drives from an older Synology and when I bought that they were more expensive than they are today. If I were buying today, I would look at 10TB drives. That said, the drive is still only about half full.

Good to note, granted 10tb is a ton of data. Overkill for many people unless you have tons of media.
