First impression: Craft note-taking

Are you sure it’s not just mathjax or katex?

I thought the graph in Obsidian would be great but after adding quite a few linked notes I did not find it all that helpful in connecting concepts that I had not already identified.

I do not know for sure - I cannot find specific documentation.

The Insert Snippet logo looks like this:

I tried some basic LaTex sample code I found online:

And this is how it is depicted:

How can we find out more details?

I don’t know how to find out exactly. But I don’t think this is full-blown tex compiler. So it must be either mathjax or katex, which is common in markdown edirors, like ia writer or 1 writer.

That would be helpful to know

But even in iAWriter it does not not support math right out of the box - you have to link to some external library

It seems crazy to me that you can’t create a new note in inbox or any folder for that matter using the share sheet on iOS and MacOS. Catching new ideas and information is a key aspect of apps like this and I can’t see how to use this otherwise very interesting app without this feature.

Agreed, they are working on that. I’ve submitted that as a feature request.

Hi - All … Ive decided to dig into Craft. Really liking it so far. I know there are a lot of teachers in this group. Im looking to use Craft to write lesson plans and guides. I used Evernote extensively for this, but its fallen out of favor and I dont like the changes. I am looking to have my lesson notes and ideas etc… Can any of the teachers in this group share some ideas ??

Thanks

You just saved me from jumping down a rabbit hole sometime in the next couple of weeks. The rabbit was beckoning strongly.

For the record, it’s a nice hole. It just needs a bit more digging.

Here’s what I am doing. I only started using Craft a week ago so I could easily change entirely. It seems perfect for my current focus, though.

This is actually focused around the lesson videos I’m creating, but I’m looking at how I might expand this to larger lesson planning. I’ve got a folder for each unit, and a document inside for each subunit. Within those I have the big question, closing and starting paragraphs to frame the subunit, and a page for each lesson.

I haven’t tried sharing links before, so I made a copy in case things went wrong. This is one of the documents I mentioned earlier.

That’s PERFECT. Thanks! I am still learning the ins and outs… You mentioned Folder for each unit; what is your tip level? The course ?? I will explore more. Thanks!

I’m only using this for these Lesson Videos at the moment, so I just have each unit as a top level folder, no subfolders as I don’t need them yet. One of the benefits of me working in Craft is it is empty at the moment, which feels calming

That would give me, ooh, about 20 folders when all are done. If I start using Craft for other things, I’ll eventually put these all inside one parent folder probably.

I was told today by a DV sales representative that the new iOS component will be released “very soon.”

I downloaded Craft for my iPad. I like an app that’s intuitive as so few developers bother with manuals any more. It’s really not so far. As an aside, I pine for the days when I could sit down and read a book about using an app. I grew up reading book books and I find it far easier to access the information I need. I’d read them cover to cover. Saving trees is great but they’re a renewable resource and cutting back on wasting paper ought to be enough. The nuns taught me! Books should have their place. They’re just easier to learn from for a lot of people and I’d love to be able to send away for an optional manual.

At any rate, I found Craft to be rather intriguing although I’m not exactly sure where it’s heading! I agree that it certainly seems rather incomplete and missing features that ought to be available from the get-go. Even text formatting is rather rudimentary. And in order to activate spell-check I’d have to enter into a long-term contract! Thanks but “No thanks”. I’ve brandished spell check recently anyway. I can spell better than my machines and I won’t have my words changed into something goofy.

Nor am I too keen on shelling out Moolah ad Infinitum. I really want to avoid a series of subscriptions and worrying about the fate of my work should I lapse.

At any rate, I wrote a few paragraphs I was quite pleased with, added a photo and wanted to export them not as a PDF, I was so irked that I wound up doing cut and paste but was cornered into doing it paragraph by paragraph. Then the photo disappeared. I thought I have plenty of perfectly good notes apps that went for a one-time fee and work without a hassle and I’m not held over a barrel to ante up.

I imagine those are the “blocks” people are referring to. Plus I don’t understand why Craft doesn’t use iCloud. I’ve never noticed any problems with syncing plus :green_apple: Apple has a solid track record with its Cloud. Besides I’m writing the Great American Novel and would prefer not to have some third party swiping my brilliant ideas.

I’d be interested to know how Craft can be implemented as a database, anyone??

I sense that this app does have potential. But, truthfully, I doubt I’m going to want to keep dishing out money with no end in sight. Set a price instead. And Craft REALLY needed to be presented when it’s more viable and not a work in progress. We all are thinking individuals and resent when an app puts the squeeze on to subscribe. I wrote a short page and ran into it a number of times,

We’ll see!

I couldn’t agree with you more, Leeabe! Spell check is saved for their deluxe model! I can’t abide by being corralled over something so basic!

It looks the one-off payment version is cancelled according to their blog.

The version of Craft (1.3 I believe) published today (2/22) includes the ability to have “local” storage for documents. If iCloud is chosen for this, then you can use the same iCloud folder on your devices and that way get iCloud sync.

@Katie It is not intuitive on how to find the option to add external locations. To do so, click on the down arrow icon next to your name, click Add New Space, then click Add External Location.

FYI, beware that with External Location, notes are saved as individual json format within the iCloud folder structure.

Show stopper for me.
