Fixing a pegboard to the back of a desk?

I have a WFH setup described here WFH desk setup - June 2025

I currently have 11 things plugged in, in addition to the usual plethora of things hanging off the dock and USB C Hub, so it’s pretty cabley under there. I want to tame them.

I have a couple of ideas, both involve pegboards

  1. fit a pegboard to the back of the desk as a backplate (i.e. at 90 degrees to the desktop) and peg and cable tie wires and power blocks to it. The concern here is that the only place to affix the pegboard is to the back edge of the desk which is only 16mm (just over half an inch) thick so Screwing from below won’t work, screwing into the edge might work. but I’m concerned about weight and the lack of an ability to fix any of the other 3 sides as there’s nothing to fix it to.

  2. Fit a Pegboard to the underside of the desk (probably with double sided tape) but then I don’t know how possible it would be to amend what’s affixed to the pegboard going forward when I change equipment.

Does anyone have an thoughts, either based on my idea or on any other advice.

Something like this?

Fix a thick wooden brace along the underside of the desk at the back, then fix the pegboard to that. Better, fix vertical braces to the horizontal brace and mount the pegboard on theme

Have you considered attaching wire baskets under your desk at the back? In my case the typical cable management baskets I found were too small so I modified some under-shelf baskets and attached them to the underside of the desk. Heaps of space for plugs and cables😀

Regarding braces and such, you might be able to find a clamp that’s unobtrusive enough that it’s not horrible to look at on top of the desk (or put something over it?). Then you could clamp a wooden beam to the underside of the desk. That would give you a solid attachment for the beam, which you could screw the board to.

Alternatively, this desk has to have legs and supports of some sort. Can you attach to those? Even something as simple as zip ties would be enough to hold a small pegboard with attached cables. Just get good zip ties.

ETA: I just went and looked at the assembly instructions for the Bekant. I’d loosen the top ever so slightly, and near the back of the desk I’d scoot a zip tie through the gap - then tighten the top back down. Hang the pegboard from the zip ties. A decent zip tie can hold more than enough weight to support that pegboard with all of the other stuff on it.

I started down that route and had all kinds of very cool and practical suggestions - then I thought to look at a pic of the desk. It looks like the legs are too far from the back of the desktop if the pegboard is to be above the surface and possibly too close to the front to allow enough legroom for an under-desk mount. That’s what led me to braces fixed to the desktop. Your clamp suggestion has the major benefit that it leaves the desktop free of holes, which may be a benefit in future.

Correct, the legs are right in the centre (front to back)

Clamping a wooden block above or below (above would give more support) to the back edge of the deck may be the way to go.

I’m not a fan of baskets, there are soooo many cables, I’d like to coil them up nicely.
