I am looking at upgrading my iPad - probably to get an 11" Air or Pro.
I am wondering what cases / covers people use and recommend?
For context, I have a second generation 11" iPad Pro with the then case / keyboard which was very light weight.
I also have as 12.9" iPad Pro from 2020 - the last one before M series iPads. For that one, I have the Magic Keyboard from Apple - which is brilliant but heavy and bulky.
My experience is that the 12.9" iPad with Magic Keyboard works really well on a desktop or table. But, really, it largely defeats the purpose of having an iPad as my 14" laptop is pretty much the same weight and just a portable and doesn’t have the software limitations although, unlike an iPad, it is not so convenient to read and annotate documents?
So I am wondering about case options for an 11" iPad.
ps I did re-read this thread which doesn’t sound very hopeful.
In the short time I had an 11” iPad Pro with Magic Keyboard, one of the things I loved about it was the ease with which I could just pop it off the keyboard with a simple action, and the equal ease of putting it back on.
Yes, it was a much heavier load to carry around, but I didn’t always carry it. If it didn’t have the keyboard, I put it in a simple, cheap sleeve for protection.
I have a Smart Folio on my M2 iPad Air for protection. And when I think I might be doing a lot of typing I toss an old lightning Magic Keyboard in my bag.
The same one I used with my 2020 iPad Pro and a Mac or two before that. I like to travel light.
Much like the user before me, I have been using a Smart Folio for my Air. I tried one or two before it, and none of them worked as well for me, especially having to dig out my Apple Pencil Pro from one. (Felt like wildcat drilling for oil.)
I have an 11” iPad Pro M2, I have the Magic Keyboard case, a magnetic folio case (no keyboard) and a hard shell folio style case.
I choose what I need based on wha I’m doing (although since I got a MBA, my iPad gets a lot less use than it used to.
It will depend how and what you use it for. If you type a lot on the go, the Magic Keyboard case is invaluable. If you largely consume content a folio would be useful. If it never leaves your desk a Bluetooth keyboard and trackpad could be the best solution.
Thanks. I too find the file management a bit too frustrating so, if I need to do much, I’ll have my laptop along.
With my existing iPad 11", although I have the original Apple soft ouch / rubber keyboard case, I mostly just type on the screen for emails, texts and the like. The lightness and flexibility of that case is, I guess, what I would like to replicate.
Apple’s Smart Folio arrangement is similar to (if not the same as) something I had in the past and my recollection is that it wasn’t particularly stable in landscape mode.
